My Ongoing Love Affair with Hair Jewelry
I admit it, I have an addiction: hair jewelry. I am always on the lookout for amazing pieces, I don't care where they come from. I must admit it, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! That's why I'm having such a hard time deciding what to do with my hair. Another thing I do to adorn my tresses is repurposing regular jewelry. I have worn silver necklaces, bracelets and anklets as headbands and ponytail holders... Read More »

Are you a Neat-Freak or a Slob?
I remember a time when I was sitting in my MIL's kitchen and we were discussing household chores. I remember being a bit embarrassed at admiting to how frequently I cleaned the house.
So that got me to thinking: Is there a standard (read: decent) frequency to cleaning your home? What am I, a neat-freak or a slob, or something in between? Is the frequency of my cleaning routine putting my family at risk of health problems?
Here is the cleaning frequency in my home: Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (16) | Blog

A War is Being Fought Against Autism...with Restraining Orders?!?!?!?!?!
[Update on original post: I want to thank beatlegirl for her imput on how one should address people who have this condition. You will find that I have edited out the inappropriate language. Thank you, beatlegirl.]
A priest in Bertha, Minn. has slapped the parents of a 13-year-old with autism with a restraining order, banning them from bringing their child to the church. The reason given for the action? Adam Race--who is over 6 feet tall and over 225 pounds--is said to be a danger to other parishioners at St. Joseph's. Adam's parents have ignored the restraining order and have continued to attend services at St. Joseph's. The Races have been cited by police and must appear in court on monday (????) for violating the order.

Yes, I am happy with my body shape, so SUE ME!
I was having a bit of girl-talk with my soon-to-be SIL (Sister-In-Law). I remarked that I have put on some weight since I got married. I told her how glad I am now of the 35 pounds I have put on (I went from a 2 to a 10) and that if anything, I wanted to tone up a bit without slimming down.
That is when there was a subtle change in her demeanor: she said, "Oh my Gawd, so you are one of THOSE?" It took me by surprise; I didn't think I would get this reaction from her.
Am I wrong for being offended by other people's resentment of my positive body image? Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (28) | Blog

Mariah is not the only one to have rushed, I did it too! (And I couldn't be happier!)
Nina Atwood writes in this blog entry about Mariah Carey's rushed marriage. Although I COMPLETELY and WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE with her about relationships, I must say that in very few instances short (read: lightning-fast) courtships do work.
Take my case as an example: Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog

What Mom didn't tell me about Marriage...
- Marriage can get smelly (especially after eating Mexican)
- There will be days when you'll wonder how Providence has stopped you for murdering your Sweetie for not using the hamper
- Many spouses will forget what the bathroom door is there for
- Humans do not develop a snore until after marriage
- Even if you lived together before marriage, the two of you will change once the ink is dry on the certificate
Is there anything else your Mom should have told you about marriage but didn't?

Honesty: Do we REALLY, REALLY want it?
Not too long ago, we were on our way out--shopping, perhaps, I don't remember--when he said, "Aren't you going to put on some makeup?"
Total honesty, good or bad?
Do you want this kind of honesty in your relationship? Do you think that it would be beneficial or detrimental to your relationship and your self-esteem? Would you reciprocate and treat your Sweetie the same way? Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (4) | Blog

A Silverton, Oregon restaurant has decreed that no child under the age of 6 may enter the premises. Are the parents of small children doomed to picnics in the park and takeout until their children graduate junior high? Read More »

Move over, Bridezilla--the "Groominator" is coming!
My husband's cousin is getting married to a "Groominator!" The man uses spreadshets to keep track of the wedding details! He is the one who is the obsessive neat freak, cook, and financial manager in the home; JM is just happy to delegate and enjoy the fruits of a beautiful home, perfectly organized papers and finances, and delicious healthy meals on the table--no wonder she's got this smashingly healthy figure! This makes me wonder a few things: Where was my husband when they were giving the men these traits, at the I-do-not-know-how-a-hamper-works line? Were the other women at JM's wedding shower secretly seething and green with envy (like little petty me), or were they blessing their lucky stars they didn't have to deal with a Groominator of their own?
