12 tips to be a great mom
A few months ago I posted eight tips to be a happier mom. Because everyone knows if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. But even if moms are happy, are they being great moms to their kids? I came across a must-read over at Zen Habits where newbie blogger and guest writer Vered of MomGrind... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (2) | Blog

If only I could really sew: pinwheel quilted coasters
I like to try sewing projects because I think (or am disillusioned) that someday, just someday, I might get the hang of it. My grandmother was an amazing seamstress and I sat by her as she made gorgeous outfits and blankets and anything she damn-well wanted to make. One would think I'd inherited her mad sewing skillz. Nope.

But I keep trying. And I've added this project to my list: pinwheel quilted coasters. Ellen over at The Long Thread makes it look too easy. But having made a quilt once, I know all too well that near-perfection is required when measuring and cutting those fabric blocks. Maybe she'll cut a sister a break and toss some up on an etsy shop.
See instructions here.

Will a new product help a parent remember baby in the back seat?
We've all read and heard about the tragic stories of parents who've accidentally left their baby in a car, only to return and find the child dead. I think most of us read these reports and are simultaneously saddened and horrified. I know I always wonder how the heck that can happen. Keys,... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (9) | Blog

Mama doesn't leave the house without...
Since my kids are no longer in diapers (woot!), I've definitely downsized in the purse department. And yet, there are a few kid-related items that I will always have stocked in my bag. Things I never carried around or even cared about until I had kidlings. This mama doesn't leave the... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (14) | Blog

Local activity blogs offer big tips for little kid fun
At least a few times a week, I find myself searching for something new to do with my kids. I'm completely hooked on Being Savvy, a new blog... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (0) | Blog

Kid wants a dog? 5 questions to help with your answer
The photo to your left is of my cute pup, Luna, when she was a mere eight weeks old. One year ago, I was dealing with training a feisty (but adorable) Labrador, my then 5-year-old son's summer vacation and my then 2-year-old. And I was working for a start-up in the middle of an acquisition. In... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (17) | Blog

DIY Lego party for $50
A few months ago I thought I had the birthday party smarts for being able to toss a shindig for my son while spending under $100 on everything. But I bow down to Amy Clark from Mom Advice. She had a Lego-inspired birthday party for her son's sixth birthday and with all its coolness, she only... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (5) | Blog

Do you keep old cassette tapes?
My parents dropped off a box of old crap that I'd left at their house when I moved out many, many years ago. My kids opened it and were awed by its contents of cassette tapes. Hundreds of them. "What are these Mom? What's this funny string (as they proceeded to unroll an entire tape of... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (93) | Blog

Let the kids color the house
These color-your-own cardboard houses are one of my favorite birthday gifts ever for young kids. The house is easy to make, durable and large enough for toddlers and kids up 12 years old to play inside. They can use crayons, markers or even paint to decorate it --- inside and out -- and it will take... Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (6) | Blog
