    Refreshing, wasn't it, to not see Jenny Sanford standing silently beside her fake-Appalachian-Trail-hiking, adulterous husband? And, then, to see her personally hand her statement to reporters outside her home after her husband's tearful, meandering mea culpa before the cameras. How painful it must have been to hear the South Carolina governor apologize to his mistress before his wife.

    Her statement is filled with references to forgiveness and reconciliation, and how she was/is all for working through this awful betrayal by her husband, Mark Sanford.   • School's out, but H1N1 flu still affecting kids (and working parents)

    The H1N1 flu (the pandemic formerly known as swine flu) is no longer front and center in the news, upstaged by protests in Iran and a southern governor who says he was hiking the Appalachian Trail but was really having an adulterous affair. You might think the worrisome virus has completed its journey. The anecdotal stories making their way around our area tell a different story: Kids hit by fevers at the end of the school year were sent home and asked to stay home for at least a week, final exams waived if need be.   • Is paying for health care a struggle?

    In an especially tough year when money is tight, lots of expenses are falling by the wayside. When health care is among the expenses being postponed or pushed completely out of a family budget, it's frightening. A quarter of Americans surveyed in a Thomas Reuters study this week said they are struggling to pay for health care this year. And 17 percent said they have postponed or delayed medical services or treatments in the past year. Read More »
