By WebVet.comTwitter helped reunite an owner with her dog -- who had left home and hopped a train in Ireland. After Deirdre Anglin realized her pup Patch had gone missing, she did "the usual social network thing,'' and posted pictures of him on her Facebook account, asking for her friends to keep an eye out for him.
Hitching a ride?
Little did she know that Patch hopped on a morning commuter train -- and the conductors had the same idea. After noticing the Jack Russell terrier, Irish Rail sent out a "Lost dog!" tweet with a photo of Patch -- who they internally dubbed Checker, joking that he could be trained to inspect tickets on the rail.

After more than 500 retweets in 32 minutes, Anglin caught sight of the message and wrote back, "That's my dog!''
The train staff noted that Patch was a great addition to the commute as passengers took turns petting him. They eventually took him off at the train's final stop where he was soon reunited with Anglin....Read More »

Yukon and Darwin are two dogs who were unable to walk a short time ago. Yukon, a wolf hybrid, had his wrist crushed by an elk. After numerous surgeries, his vets were suggesting amputation as the only option. Darwin, a tiny little Yorkie, was attacked by a larger dog and had his front paw amputated.
Today, both of these dogs are active and running on devices made by a company called OrthoPets that specializes in prosthetics and orthotic braces for animals: Yukon wears a removable brace that lets his injured wrist support his weight again, while Darwin sports an American flag-motif prosthetic leg.
OrthoPets founder Martin Kaufmann came from the world of human prosthetics and orthotics and started the company after his cousin's dog was became unable to use a paw. When veterinarians suggested amputation, Kaufmann thought he could do better. He made the dog a brace and then decided to head into the animal world full-time. He's since teamed up with veterinarian Dr. Patsy Mich, who serve

Stevie Wonder, a 6-month-old German shepherd mix, was adopted by Isotopes pitcher John Ely, who met the pup when the team volunteered at Watermelon Mountain Ranch, an animal shelter in Rio Rancho, N.M. The players were instantly taken with the dog and decided to give him a home at Isotopes Park.
"He won everyone over, so we all agreed to pitch in," said Ely, Stevie's primary guardian, in an interview with KOB4 TV. "Everyone loves him. The players, the coaches, clubhouse guys, everyone. Stevie's way more popular around here than I am."
Shelter workers said Stevie was a victim of abuse and was found wandering the streets. One of his eyes was so badly hurt that it had to be removed immediately, and his other eye was so infected that it had already gone blind, so veterinarians remov...Read More »
