You will be attracted to green things this day. Unencumbered land in front of your home is considered auspicious in Feng Shui and in suburban America. If it is verdant and green, all the better. Water your lawn in the morning or evening so it soaks in rather than evaporates.

What do fair trade jewelry, South American rainforests and African elephants have in common? The latter two are disappearing at critical rates while some fair trade jewelry is helping to restore both.

"Slash and burn" agricultural techniques are destroying rainforests, replaced by cattle ranches and banana plantations. Despite an international ban on the sale of ivory, illegal poaching of elephant tusks has brought the elephant population to near extinction.

But a palm nut, about as big as an avocado pit, is helping to alleviate in a small way both of these devastating problems. The tagua ("tah-gwah") nut is the dried seedpod of the Tagua Palm, a native of South American tropical forests. Because of its similarities to ivory, it is carved into uniquely beautiful necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more.

One Tagua Palm yields up to 50 pounds of nuts a year, about the same weight as an average elephant tusk. Because the nuts are typically harvested from the seed

Like many of you, I LOVE loose leaf tea. However, I'm always looking for cute and creative solutions to use my tea. These D.I.Y. tea bags are super cute. I think they would make amazing gifts! Here's how you can make your own... 22
Supplies needed: Coffee filters, Scissors, Sewing machine, Loose tea leaves, Stapler, Embroidery thread, Paper for tags (construction paper, old book pages, etc.), Optional: Spices (pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, ground ginger, etc.) 33
Step 1 - Cut two coffee filters into a rectangle. I typically just cut off the ridged part. 44
Step 2 - Stitch the filters together on three sides, leaving one of the smaller sides open. 55
Step 3 - Fill the teabag with the loose tea leaves. I use anywhere from 1 to 2 teaspoons, depending on the size of the bag and how strong you like your tea. (You can also add about 1/2 teaspoon of your favorite spices. Pumpkin spice is one of my favorites!) 66
Step 4 - Stitch the top of the tea bag closed. All four sides should be stitched now!

  • Hey

hey everyone living in fayetteville now almost two years trying to figure out my next step in life.

  • Growing up in a bi - lingual household, I learned very early in life to appreciate the beauty of both the English and Spanish languages. For example there are at least nine different ways of saying "I love you" in the Spanish language versus only one in the English language. Along with being raised within a bi - lingual household when we relocated to Milwaukee Wisconsin, we lived in a neighborhood that was filled with many different languages. Therefore, I learned to speak a few phrases in several different languages such as Polish, Russian, and German. Although, I must admit at first I thought it was strange to hear so many different languages however; I learned to accept this and the people as my friends and neighbors. I also came to realize that a good number had immigrated to this country in search of a better life for themselves and their children. When I look back on those times, I am glad that I learned to take advantage of the fact I had picked up a smattering of several
