• With all of the recent media coverage concerning the Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman incident I thought I would take the time to look up the Florida "Stand Your Ground" law. From some of the postings I have read so far a good number of people have tried to make this a race issue. But the truth of the matter is that this is in fact a legal issue and is now in the hands of our justice system. So if you are a supporter of Mr. Zimmerman then feel free to read the Florida state statute as it is written. I pulled a copy down after I looked it up and copied and pasted it to a word document. I did not look up the police report but then that particular report is a matter of public record so anyone can look it up for themselves.

This is an entire copy of the Florida "Stand Your ground Law." Those of you who support Mr. Zimmerman please do read this and then determine for yourself if Mr. Zimmerman was within the confines of the law or if the law does not apply at all. For those who are

For an easy main dish, I like to take a box meal such as Velveeta Skillets or Zatarain's and substitute beans vegetables for the meat.

The usual ratio I use for substitution is: 1 can of beans and 2 cans of vegetables per pound of meat.

If I'm working with fresh vegetables I substitute 1 can of beans and about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of vegetables.

My usual method of preparation is to mix the noddles or rice and flavoring with the vegetables in a microwaveable container. I don't drain the cans. The liquid from the cans and vegetables makes up for the water called for on the back of the box.

I microwave the ingredients on high, stirring every six minutes until the rice or noodles are cooked and the liquid is gone. It usually takes about 24 minutes.

Then I mix in any cheese that came in the box. I let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Sometimes I even add sunflower seeds or nuts.

Every time I do this I use a different combination of a vegetables and beans so it's always a little

    Audra FordinAudra Fordin

When you own a car, maintenance and insurance are requirements. Filling up with gas is also the nature of the beast. If you're on the road a lot, and you cringe every time you have to fill up, I have some great money saving gas tips to help you out.

Here are a few things you can do today to get better gas mileage right away. In real estate they say location, location, location. In auto repair, we say maintenance, maintenance, maintenance!

    Change Your Filters
A well maintained car will operate with greater efficiency. You will have better performance, be safer on the road, and get the best fuel consumption. Something as small as a clogged fuel filter can restrict the flow of gas, which makes your car work harder, which wastes gas, which wastes money! The same is true for your air filter. If your car cannot breathe fresh air, it struggles. Struggling uses more energy from the engine. More energy = wasted gas.

    Use the Right Octane
If your car requires 87 octane,

I thought we were careful and we did use condoms. I never wanted children so I wasn't trying to get pregnant or trap him or any other sorta bull crap people think or say. He broke up with me about a week after we found out i was pregnant. I was hurt at first because one i was pregnant with his child and two he did it on facebook. And then i was just mad and resentful. He completly stopped talking to me. and he was telling people that i wouldnt talk to him. I'm 3 days past my due date as of today and he has not tried to get ahold of me once to see if me or the baby is okay. he hasnt went to any doctors appointments and as far as i know he hasnt bought anything for the baby either. • What the heck do you do with parchment paper? How do you use a pastry bag? Buddy Valastro, author of Baking with the Cake Boss, lists everything you need for at-home baking success-including how to avoid grating your knuckles on a microplane zester.

    BRUSHES
I recommend that you have three types of brushes as part of your kitchen arsenal. A pastry brush is the best way to apply syrups and other soaking liquids to sponge cakes, to work with melted butter, and to apply water to fondant if you don't have a water pen (see page 195). (A squeeze bottle with a sponge tip applicator or a spray bottle will also work.) A bench brush has long, stiff bristles and is made for sweeping flour off your work surface. I rarely see these in home kitchens, but I recommend you own one because it makes it very easy to get your surface clean. A large makeup brush, sometimes called a powder brush, is useful for patting down sugar or cornstarch on your work surface when you are working with fondant.

    Taxes To Tiaras...

    Pricey Proms!

Is this a good sign for the economy...or a really bad one? A Visa survey found the average American teen (or, more likely, their parents) will spend $1,078 this year (up 26% from last year's already shocking $807) on going to the prom! Even more disturbing? The survey found teens from low income families (household income of $20-30k per year) spending the most on prom: $2600 for their big night out - almost double the national average! That's what we call an a-prom-ination.

    Tax Time

Yes, that is the taxman you hear coming up behind you. This year, since April 15th lands on a Sunday, and April 16th is "District of Columbia Emancipation Day" (who knew?) we actually get two more days - the deadline for filing is April 17th. For all you procrastinators who need tips on how to file for an extension, check out our article!

    Happiness interview: Jonah Lehrer.

I'm a huge fan of Jonah Lehrer's work-and there's a lot of it, because he's insanely prolific-and I'm tremendously interested in the subjects he covers both in his books and in his writings for periodicals like the Wall Street Journal. I rushed out to read How We Decide and Proust Was a Neuroscientist, and I just got my hands on his brand-new book, Imagine: How Creativity Works (an instant New York Times bestseller).

His writing often touches on the issue of happiness, so I wanted to hear what he had to say.

Gretchen: What's a simple activity that consistently makes you happier?
Jonah: I'm a walker. When I feel stuck or stumped or stressed, I go for a stroll, the longer the better. The actual location doesn't really matter. I can derive equal satisfaction from the crush of pedestrians in Manhattan and the desolate landscape of the California desert. I like the beach and the hills, the cities and exurbs.

    One of the pleasures of

We love Trader Joe's as much as everyone else. But some items are better left on the shelves. Following are products worth skipping due to poor quality, freshness, or price.

    Fish
Their frozen and fresh filets may be a good deal, but in this case, you get what you pay for. A recent purchase of two plastic-wrapped salmon filets proved to be a total bust; the texture and flavor were so below par, the entire dish went uneaten. We've found more often than not, the seafood leaves much to be desired.

    Produce
Never mind the (wasteful) plastic used to wrap and sell produce. Our loving feeling was lost over the lack of freshness and flavor we regularly find with TJ's fruits and vegetables. Unlike produce purchased elsewhere, items bought at TJs seem to spoil quite quickly. A recent purchase proved our point: bell peppers got moldy within two days in the fridge and heirloom tomatoes were flavorless.

    Bread
Much like TJ's produce, breads at TJ's tend to turn
