The first frost has already come. The tomato plants are brown. The cucumbers are wilted and laying everywhere, but you hate to clean it all up because you know all that freshly cleared dirt is going to be used as the neighborhood litter box.

I have a few suggestions that have worked for me to keep all those cats at bay.

The first involves fencing material rolled out over the garden box. It can be held in place by simply placing an old board or two to hold it down. It is much to uncomfortable for them to walk on and they tend to go elsewhere. In the spring, you can leave the fencing in place- depending on what you are growing. I find it works well for my annual herbs as well as my scallions and romaine lettuce.

Another method I have found works well is planting aromatic herbs and bulbs. I have one box which contains my chives and sage. they smell strong enough that even my own cat won't go anywhere near it. I also plant garlic and onions which I will harvest in
