• Commentary/People like to gamble and it's a big business for casinos because they reap billions of dollars every year from those who love to gamble. There are gambling addicts who gamble every day of their lives and they spend every cent they make in casinos. I've actually known people who've become gambling addicts and they would do anything to get the money to gamble. They would disappear for days gambling and they would actually lose track of time and the days. I've seen them ruin their life and lose their families but they continued to gamble at any form of gaming they could until they lost every thing they had and also their families.

People are at casinos spending big bucks; and in a lot of cases, they cannot afford the money they're spending because it takes away from their necessities to provide for their families and themselves. Years ago when casinos where popular in a neighboring state many of those people would spend their entire earnings and then have "no" money for rent

  • Commentary: People are we going to see a drop in oil prices because of speculation the U.S. will release reserves? I've noticed for the past two months that oil prices have been creeping up again; and then today I read at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/27/oil-prices-plunging_n_1833206.html as the threat of production from Tropical Storm Isaac appeared to lessen and traders speculating that a release of oil from U.S. reserves may occur.

The article stated the weather forecasts for Isaac are easing some and letting-up the fear that Isaac might damage key oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center is now predicting Isaac will grow to a Category 1 hurricane in lieu of a Category 2 hurricane. A Category 1 hurricane winds can range from 74 mph to 95 mph.

The article stated that Gene McGillian, oil analyst for Tradition Energy, stated the production centers in the Gulf are able to withstand low-level hurricanes.

    It also stated the Gulf

  • I'm amazed at Randy Travis` constant escapade's here of late, and I ask myself, "What in the world is happening to Randy Travis who has been on the top charts of the Country Music Charts for several years."

I've been a fan of his music, and especially his gospel music, since he first came out on the country charts. If alcohol is his problem, I would hope that Randy will take a serious look at himself and all of his escapade's and come before the news media and make some statements about what's causing his terrible problems. I might add, "Is it the people you're involving yourself with Travis?"

I just got a message on the Internet at http://www.tmz.com/2012/08/24/randy-travis-church-fight-drunk-intoxicated/?icid=maing-... Stating that the Plano Police Department told TMZ that Travis had been cited for simple assault. The officials also told TMZ they believed Travis was the primary aggressor in the fight. The police indicated there was a family argument taking place between

  • According to the hhtp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/27/amish-beard-cutting-attacks-ohio-trial_n_1833… sixteen people in Jefferson County in Cleveland, Ohio have been charged with hate crimes in the hair-cutting attacks on fellow Amish which go to trial this week in Ohio.

I was in awe as I read in the article that the suspects in this case had forcibly cut the beards and the hair of Amish men and the hair of women last fall. I cannot believe anyone would have the audacity to cut a woman's hair much less a man's because of how they view their religious beliefs. This is totally ludicrous and I cannot believe anyone would have the nerve to do such a thing. This appears to me that it goes back to the Dark Ages. The attacks were motivated by religious differences according to authorities.

This is one act that in my belief is horrendous and I think the suspects, if charged, should be punished to the maximum if they're convicted. What in the world is wrong with people in our

  • Keira Knightly donned a blush-colored Chanel confection at the London premiere of 'Anna Karenina.' Love it or hate it?
    -Lucia Peters, BettyConfidential.com

Enthusiasts of Russian literature, rejoice: Anna Karenina is here! Starring Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen (who, you'll recall, played Keira's Mr. Darcy in 2005's Pride and Prejudice), and a whole host of other British greats, this adaptation of Dostoevsky's novel had its premiere in London on Tuesday night. Keira, who plays the story's titular ill-fated heroine, wore this blush-colored confection to the event. What do you think, Bettys?

Part of Chanel's Fall 2012 Couture collection, the gown features sheer flutter sleeves and ruffled floral details that cascade from the neckline down to the hem; a shiny belt accentuates her waist, and smoky eyes and a side-parted updo finish off the look. Notably, this is the first time we've seen this collection on a red carpet. For

  • Lorenzo appears to have slept his way through his first photo shoot with mom Snooki. Thank goodness for that!
    -Lucia Peters, BettyConfidential.com

It was inevitable: Now that Snooki's little meatball, Lorenzo Dominic LaValle, has been on the planet for more than a week, she and fiancé Jionni LaValle are releasing a set of super posed photos of their new family. Awkward and uncomfortable? Sweet and adorable? You tell us!

The full photo spread, which was shot on September 1, will be available for all of us to gawk at in this week's issue of People, due out on Friday. In the meantime, though, MTV has gotten a hold of a sneak peek, giving us our first non-Paparazzi look at Baby Lorenzo. To be fair, it's a surprisingly tasteful photo; true, Snooki is wearing leopard print, but a) at least it's a little less tacky than the usual Jersey Shore animal print getup, and b) thank goodness she didn't put baby Lorenzo in a matching leopard print onesie. Jionni's role in the photo seems

  • President Barack Obama speaks at the White House Forum on Women and the Economy, Friday, April 6, 2012, in the South Court Auditorium of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House complex in Washington. (Photo: Carolyn Kaster/AP)

Democrats taking the stage this week in North Carolina will make their case for why Americans should hire them to go to Washington. Democrats plainly see women as their most promising pool of potential supporters, and their most effective sales pitch as portraying Republicans as an unacceptable alternative engaged in a "War on Women."

Women should consider what it says about the administration's record that such scare tactics are the best Democrats have to offer. Four years ago, women overwhelmingly supported candidate Obama based on his promise of a robust economic recovery and a new tone in Washington. Today, Democrats can't brag about greater civility or prosperity, only of an expanded safety net that helps Americans weather the never-ending economic storm.

Indeed, the Obama Administration has succeeded in expanding government so today more Americans depend on Washington for basic sustenance. One in seven Americans now receives food stamps. One
