    • Doggie Haven: Candy Spelling's pooch tells all

As a dog, I have very good hearing - as do many canines - and I constantly see and hear when people point and whisper, "Boy, that dog hit the jackpot." I'm the first one to agree (my backyard is almost five acres!) Life for this little Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is good.

Candy's column this time is about how she made her home a haven for me; so I asked if I could put my paws on the keyboard and contribute to the article. More than 30 years before I arrived, Candy had baby-proofed the house for Tori and Randy. Corners are rounded, furniture is basically stain-proof, and there are windows at my eye-level everywhere so I can feel like I'm outside even when I'm indoors.

I have water dishes every few yards. My friend Sarge from around the corner came over, and he said his mother told him my bowls are crystal. I hadn't known that. Cool. There are custom-made doggie doors that match the doors in the house. They have double locks on them (because I'm so precious, I guess), and lead

    • Candy Spelling gets decorating tips from the set of her new Broadway musical

I have been away from home more in the last few months than I can ever remember traveling before. The reason was that I became a first-time producer -- which is ironic because my husband was the most prolific producer in television history.

My producing assignment was the show Promises, Promises, which opened on Broadway in April for the first time in 42 years. The delightful musical comedy, starring Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth, was based on a popular movie called "The Apartment," as the musical adapted with a hilarious script by Neil Simon and music by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

Much of the story takes place in Chuck Baxter's apartment, as Sean's character finds out that loaning out his apartment to executives in his company can help advance his career.

So much thought and care went into Chuck's apartment, as it played such an important visual role in telling the stories of the characters. Like my own home, it had to become a haven.

    • A peek at Candy Spelling's colossal 17,000-square-foot attic—plus, how she conquers all that clutter

My attic, like most things in my life, is oversized. At 17,000 square feet, it's larger than the condominium where I plan to move. But, I'll write about downsizing another time (just the word causes me great anxiety), and, instead, invite you in to this special part of my haven. I know that, when people think "attic," they usually visualize stuffing things away and going back "someday" to sort them out. Not me; I'm not only a chronic sorter, but I think more of the attic as "my special storage space" than "out of sight, out of mind."

One friend said, "You treat Randy and Tori's school awards as importantly as Aaron's big TV statues." I liked that. Each item is a piece of our lives, and they deserve better than to be poorly packed away until the dreaded clean-out-the-attic day finally arrives. I actually look forward to going to the attic and climb up there at least four or five times a week, and sometimes every day. There's too much of our lives up there to be stuffed, piled and
