Wearing luxury doesn't have to break your bank, take it from a professional thrifter. Everyday as consumers we have an opportunity to flex our shopping muscle and I strongly suggest pumping up your muscles the 'green' way. Every year just the USA alone dumps millions of tons of toxic waste caused by the fashion industry and that's just in the USA so imagine when you add up the rest of the world…. I shudder at the thought… Daily everyone of us can do our part in saving our natural precious resources like taking shorter showers, turning off the lights, recycle your plastics and yes most importantly buy second hand luxury! Just check out this week's haul and see for yourself: I got a vintage DVF blouse, Michael Kors made in Italy skirt, a fantastic Baldelli made in Italy elephant piggy bank, Lanvin gown, Ferragamo belt, a super hot 70′s jumpsuit, Oscar de la Renta belt, Proenza Schouler top & a skirt. I counted 9 fabulous recycled luxury items that were giving the 'green' light to live

This is from an old friend of mine Art Rietveld, no relations to Gerrit Rietveld that he knows of but there is always hope. Art is a serial thrifter / yard sale pro and I mean professional and you guys are going to die when you read what he found and his story so here goes….. I think if I were circling the globe in some NASA spacecraft and looked down at the woman wearing this ensemble it wouldn't take me being a rocket scientist to figure out that this woman has STYLE. This outfit is so simple chic I can't stand it. This extremely soft Proenza Schouler top is off the chart. Proenza Schouler is a New York based womenswear & accessories brand founded in 2002 by designers Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez. Proenza Schouler is named after the 2 designers' mothers' maiden names. So pairing this top with this gorgeous black uber luxurious brand Piazza Sempione skirt is just being smart. Ok you know I'm a tag hag for luxury but here is something you might not know, I love fabulous vintage in general. So when this fabulous 70′s jumpsuit with no tag inside jumped right out after me what was I to do? Grab it and put it in my cart and carry onward my child. I LOVEEEEreally great designs and yes I'm always hoping they will be vintage Pucci, Dior, Madame Gres, Balenciaga, Lanvin blah blah blah but when they jump out after me with such gusto & STYLE well I just can't put it back on the rack now could I??? I loved finding this black patent leatherOscar de la Renta belt because it cranks it up to 2012 and with the perfect Roger Vivier flats you can go from daytime to evening all with one blink with those false eyelashes. You and I are going to keep a little secret so get closer and let me spill. This Lanvin is lingerie from Neiman Marcus but if you didn't know it immediately would you care? No because this is so sexy & silk and with the ruffled neckline it just looks like a gorgeous dress Alber Elbaz would have designed only he would have been a very young little boy since this piece is from the late 70′s and he was born in 1961. I found this mint condition Ferragamo leather white belt that looks AMAZING….. You remember when Lauren Hutton wore silk pajamas with an Armani jacket sometime in the 80′s to the Oscars? No one would have ever known they were pajamas if she didn't tell the world… same with this piece. It's gorgeous and I don't believe a woman should just wear this piece in the comfort of her bedroom do you? Hell no, that's what I thought. I love having little secrets…. I can't believe it's been nearly a week since I had my Tom Ford & Bergdorf Goodman rant but time flies by and waits for no one! I did get a reply back from Bergdorf Goodman thanking me for alerting them about this 'issue' and that they had forward my post to their Customer Service TEAM to help prevent this from happening in the future and not a peep from Tom Ford orJoe…. Here is how the week rolled out for me: started with the Tom Ford & Bergdorf Goodman rant, found a pink vintage Pringle of Scotland blouse, Trina Turk capri pants, Eskandar top,Michael Kors made in Italy slacks, vintage super HOT 60′s caftan by Cole of California, Max Mara red linen dress, Nicole Miller silk dress and finally a letter with pics from Loretta. Loretta is a fellow thrifter that scored herself Alberto Makali, Taryn Rose, Donald J Pliner & 3Shoshanna pieces. Not bad Loretta, not bad! I know I've said this 21 zillion times already but yes I really love hearing from fellow thrifters that find luxury clothing in thrift stores. I received this fantastic letter from Loretta with photos of her items and she's a pro. Every time I receive a letter from anyone telling me their story so that I can share it with my readers I'm most grateful. I've been a thrifter now for 30 years and it's been a incredible journey for my luxury clothes and I wouldn't have traded it for anything because this is truly the 'greenest' form of shopping there ever was. Every item I've found or Loretta has found has history and a story, we may not know what the story is but that's the point that fascinates me to no end. Who doesn't love a fire engine red linen dress especially when it's made by Max Mara? I know I can't think of a soul either. I'm sure NASA spotted this fire engine red linen Max Mara dress from outer space. It didn't take me over a minute to see this one. It's beautiful with just the right amount of glam but that's what you would expect from a 60 year old Italian company like Max Mara. I love this brand because they really do minimal & streamline to perfection. So I grabbed this dress and before I could inhale my next breathe I spotted this leopard print silk Nicole Miller dress. Animal prints are always in STYLE and timeless just like the paisley, houndstooth and herringbone patterns and yes a little goes a long ways but I found the sheerness of the arm sleeves to be so sexy and chic. Nicole Miller is sold at Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bloomingdales & Nordstrom so she's a heavyweight champ. I'm quite pleased with these 2
