SLTInspire and Empower: Getting down to the Core

When a friend told me about a new workout place from LA, now a New York outpost called SLT (acronym for Strengthen, Lengthen, Tone) I was intrigued.

Tell me more I said…after all who doesn't need to strengthen, lengthen, tone?

When you go to the website (sltnyc.com) it says IF CARDIO, STRENGTH TRAINING And PILATES HAD A BABY, the powerful hybrid would be named SLT. I recently tried it and they couldn't be more right. I spin 5 days a week so I consider myself pretty strong, and after my first class at SLT I realized how many muscles my endless hours of spinning just couldn't reach.

The music was fast and fun and the pace was quick enough so you don't get bored but slow enough that anyone can do it. It definitely targets all of the individual muscle group. It's like a Pilates class on overdrive. Your heart rate goes up and you sweat. Two things I never experienced in my past Pilates sessions, although

Now that the indulgences of Thanksgiving are behind us, it's time to get back on track with healthy yet still delicious options. Winter squash is a great find at the farmer's markets this time of year, and one lesser thought of member of this family is spaghetti squash. It is a notoriously healthier alternative to pasta, and is just scrumptious with the right combo of seasoning.
Whether it's topped with Giada De Laurentiis's healthy Turkey Bolognese or yourfavorite marinara, a healthy sauce will turn a heavy "don't" into a lean and mean "do".
My auntie-Godmom (mom's younger sister who happens to be my god-mother) taught me how to make spaghetti squash when I was a teenager. As long as you bake the squash long enough, you can serve it anyway you like-it goes well with most types of pasta sauce. This recipe is a lighter option, and the fiber-filled squash will fill you up quick, leaving you feeling both guilt-free and

Ah, Thanksgiving: nosy relatives wondering why you're still single, prying yourself out of bed at 6am to buy your niece a sweater on Black Friday, and-perhaps the true saving grace-leftovers.

Leftovers are the one thing you can count on during Thanksgiving. They won't ask you who you're dating; they won't make you find a parking space at the mall; they'll just be there and be delicious-maybe even more delicious than they were the first time. No man can promise that.

And of course, who can forget the famous Friends episode where Monica dances with a turkey on her head.

Well, we'd like to suggest some better ways to use your turkey, ones that won't mess with a classic.

If you want to spice up your leftover lovin' this year, take a look at these great suggestions from Martha Stewart.

Looking for the perfect companion to attend every holiday party on your list? We don't mean those jewel-toned Louboutins, but just as decadent and a little sweeter.

This sugar and spice dessert will be everything nice (albeit a little sinful) for those wanting to whip up a seasonal indulgence in less than ten minutes.

Creamy pumpkin dip with ginger snaps Creamy Pumpkin Dip With Ginger Snaps

1 3oz package of soft cream cheese

      1/2 cup of canned pumpkin

      1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

      1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg

1 8 ounce tub of cool whip

      1/4 cup of powdered sugar

      Sprinkling of cloves

      Three Easy Steps:

Beat the sugar and cream cheese until it's nice and blended.

Next, mix in everything else - except the cool whip. We save the best for last.

Once blended together, fold in the cool whip.

Serve with ginger snaps on the side for perfect holiday dipping.

      Makes about 3 cups.

    • Lashes 101

      By: Lori Hamlin

There is nothing more feminine and alluring than the flutter of flirty lashes. As a makeup artist, I find that no look is complete without adding a bit of fringe. There is no other product that elicits more oohs and ahhs, and instantly changes the appearance, and personality, of any girl who wears them. Leave your fear at the door because they are a lot easier to apply than you may believe. There are thousands of articles and videos available online that tell you "how to" apply false lashes but here are a few pointers that I hope will give you more confidence and make the learning process easier.

Most women are intimidated by lashes because they don't even know where to begin. Start by deciding whether you are more comfortable applying a strip of lashes or individual clusters. Lashes on a strip tend to be easier to apply, but can look less natural than individuals. To make a lash strip more comfortable to wear, my advice is

      By: Heidi Brod

Chicken Dinner for ThanksgivingIt's Thanksgiving. We're all scouring the web looking for a recipe for the most succulent bird.

A typical Thanksgiving meal includes sweet potato pie with a side of crazy, turkey topped with family dysfunction and inappropriate innuendo that even makes the kids table blush.

So if you're looking for something to derail the conversation from going a fowl, try chicken.

If you're having a smaller soiree it's the perfect remedy to a big bird that's always dry. You're always stuck with the Turkey Tupperware party for weeks after. You've wasted time and money and even mowed down a few of the elderly in an attempt to secure the last bird at the grocery store.

Take our advice, pick a smaller chicken and use this doB original recipe for something your friends and family will happily gobble up this Thanksgiving. It's delicious, juicy and tender.

Now will you please pass the potatoes with a side of unsolicited advice…

Newsflash: Going to out to an expensive weekend brunch with your girlfriends is so passé. Fall is all about cozying up at someone's apartment, sipping homemade mimosas and kicking back-without having to worrying about disturbing the neighboring table with your (admittedly) loud giggles. This recipe is rich without being heavy, and will become a quick substitute for your been-there-done-that traditional French Toast.
Pears are an unexpected fruit for this time of year, but Bosc pears are actually in their peak season during winter. Try your best not to substitute-they have a texture that is perfect for cooking-not to mention they are packed with vitamin C and fiber. However, do feel free to switch out thePoire William; this liqueur can be hard to find. I actually used brandy (which you can often buy in the little nip bottles) mixed with juice from canned pears.

I only made one other change to the recipe, which will
