    • Get out the cowboy boots and short shorts! We're pretty sure once everyone gets a look at singer-dancer-actress Julianne Hough doing her thing in "Footloose" there will be a run on red cowboy boots and tight denim, not to mention gorgeous brunette tousled locks. Julianne went darker to play Ariel Moore, the rebellious minister's daughter. We caught up with Julianne, who admits she adopted Ariel's sexy style off-camera during filming, as well as supermodel Andie MacDowell and newcomer Kenny Wormald, who plays transfer student Ren McCormack. See what they had to say about their character's style and why the film is more of a re-interpretation than a remake. Check out the latest from The Thread below.

You know how when you were growing up there were kids who just positively THRIVED on breaking rules? I was not one of them; thosechildren scared me half to death. Which is why I love breaking stodgy old fashion rules! Are you like me in that you yearn to feel "bad" without getting in trouble? These laws are just begging to be squashed.

      1. Don't mix prints!

This rule is as outdated as they come. In fact, print-mixing has beenone of the most prominent trends on the runways in recent seasons. I love it because it allows the wearer to take a risk in an unexpected way.

      2. You can't wear white to a wedding!

OK. This rule DOES still apply to wedding guests, but recently has been amended to exclude the wedding party. Case in point: Pippa Middleton's glamorous Maid of Honor look, Kate Moss's angelic wedding party and Kim Kardashian's bridesmaids. I'm actually seriously considering dressing my lovely bridesmaids in ivory for my wedding next Fall!

    • 7 household tricks to make your shoes last longer

It's jeans and jacket weather in New York City and this week I officially put away my summer sandals” a bittersweet ritual. But as I dug out my booties and my over-the-knee boots from the back of my closet, I realized how much I'd missed them. What's easier than pulling on a pair of statement boots with jeans and a sweater? A no-brainer winter uniform. Truth be told, in my rush to move on to warmer weather, I left a lot of them in need of love and attention. A few will have to head to the shoemaker. But in many cases there are fast and easy cost-saving home remedies that work just as well to get your winter footwear into shape. Here are seven of my favorite:

      1. All of my heels have scuff marks, and I've found that baking soda is a fantastic scuff mark remover. Use a little water to make a paste and gently rub the area.

      2. Petroleum jelly gives a nice shine to leather. Apply less than you think you need with a cloth and then use another cloth to wipe the leather clean.
