My First Can 'O Spray Paint

I have been coveting this bench and its metallic bins in my Serena & Lily catalogue for months.

Now, the bins are not so expensive ($28 apiece), but the bench clocks in at nearly $1000 and I really don't have a great home for it in my entryway.

When I opened the latest Martha Stewart Living Magazine, I was similarly smitten with these metallic baskets and accessories.

So, what do you know? I went through an entire can of spray paint this weekend. And, yes, it was my very first can of spray paint.

I used Martha's recommendation: Krylon Premium Metallic Spray, in Sterling Silver, $4.75, www.michaels.com. It's quite bright (think aluminum foil) but looks just right, especially when mixed with bits of wood.

I started with a set of these simple baskets from Michaels.

I liked seeing the rattan handles on Martha's pieces, so I taped off the handles.

Last weekend's Mother's Day brunch at my house was fully amped by months of my sister's cooking and entertaining at Love U Madly.

Kim prepped yogurt granola cups and blueberry cake and wine pops on Saturday.

I did not cook or prep on Saturday. On Sunday, I woke at 10:30 am (can't Mother's Day come more than once a year?), just as our 17 guests were arriving and quickly made the fritttata I've been making for a few Mother's Days (and lots of other brunches), one of my favorite recipes from The Six O'Clock Scramble. I feared eggs - especially eggs with SPINACH - would certainly get lost amid the sweets, not to mention bagels and tuna from the Crown Supermarket (sorry if you don't live in Connecticut, it's fully the best tuna salad in the world and the recipe is heavily guarded). But the frittata held its own.

Our friend Eric once called this fritatta "insane," which is the highest compliment ever bestowed upon food I prepared.
