Paperweights, shrink-wrapped shower products, mall-brand candles-all those generic, extra gift-y gifts-aren't necessary bad presents. People can usually find some use for that sort of stuff. Really, the only problem with giving a standard-issue something is that it seems hurried and impersonal, as if you didn't put any thought into it. Think about it: who unwraps a mini zen garden kit and says, "Wow, they so get me"?
Gift clichés are tricky, there's no way around it-which is why I've included less-expected alternatives for nine generic presents in the slideshow above. Although my picks are all crowd pleasers, you'll find that each one is more special than your average holiday-themed toiletry or office supply, so no one on your list will feel slighted. Sayonara, emerald! The color experts at Pantone named 2014's Color of the Year as Radiant Orchid. And while here at Lucky we're having a hard time settling on whether the color is "more pink" or "more purple," we all agreed the bright shade can make for a surprisingly cool beauty statement. From lip colors to nail polishes, here's how you can get a jump start on wearing it.

Get ready to wear lots and lots of purple next year: Pantone, the global authority on all things hue-related, has just announced Radiant Orchid as 2014's Color of the Year.
To come up with this particular shade, Pantone's team scoured the worlds of art, entertainment, fashion, travel and even sports to determine the most influential colors in each respective industry. In case you've forgotten, Emerald was 2013's Color of the Year; in 2012, it was Tangerine Tango.
So why Radiant Orchid for 2014? "While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination," explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in this morning's release. "An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. Keira Knightley shook up the tradition of extravagant, A-list nuptials earlier this year when she chose to tie the knot in a five-year-old, previously owned Rodarte dress. We first spotted the memorable, powder pink piece at a BAFTA event in 2008, and were thrilled to see the 28-year-old rewear that same gown to her May 2013 wedding in the south of France. It's much too pretty to only wear once.
It seems that Knightley agrees: last night she recycled that same dress again for the SeriousFun Gala in London. This time around, though, she refreshed the look by slipping thin lacy shirt beneath the strapless ensemble to create a long-sleeved effect.
Click through above to see photo evidence of her three-times recycled gown, and let us know: Which of these looks is your favorite?Read More »from Keira Knightley Hits the Red Carpet in Her Wedding Dress

2013 was a year full of firsts for me: I ran my longest distance (12 miles), learned how to cook and landed my dream job here at Lucky! Something else that surprisingly ranked high up on my list of personal accomplishments? Mastering a fishtail braid. I know what you're thinking: After years of seeing all sorts of fancy braids on the runways and red carpet, a fishtail now seems like it's one of the most basic styles. But no matter how many how-tos I read, my fingers just didn't want to cooperate. It was finally thanks to Lucky's video series where stylist David Diegez showed an easy video tutorial when I figured it out.
Now that I'm hooked on braids, it doesn't cease to amaze me the different types of braids that have woven their way onto the red carpet as of late: From side braids to milkmaid styles, it seems like the hair inspiration is endless.

Sometime in the last decade-exactly when, I'm not sure-the "no white after Labor Day" rule died. These days, cool girls thread the shade formerly exclusive to summer parties through their winter ensembles in variety of ways. White coats, white denim, white boots, white everything-it all goes.
The secret to their winter white success (and yours!) can be found in the slideshow above, which outlines five failsafe rules for wearing the non-color during cold weather months. At last night's British Fashion Awards, style was definitely not in short supply-nor were amazing beauty looks. While Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Alexa Chung's red lips certainly made a bold statement, it was Sienna Miller's new hair that had us doing a double take. She chose to dress up her beachy waves with a new rose gold tint that seemed to make her whole face glow.

No stranger to dying her locks, Sienna's tried pink hair before. But instead of all-over color, this time she chose to highlight strategic portions of the front and mid-sections of her hair for a more subtle effect. We also spy her natural roots peeking through-could rose gold be a fresh way to experiment with color before making an even bigger change? We'll have to wait and see!Read More »from Check Out Sienna Miller's Surprising New Rose Gold Hair Color
