    • Who Wore it Better: Kristen Bell or Anna Paquin?

Kristen Bell and Anna Paquin (Jon Kopaloff, Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic)

What we have here is a surprising fashion faceoff. We're used to "True Blood" star Anna Paquin going for it with figure-flattering, tough-chic looks, but Kristen Bell's a different story. Her vibe is more retro sweetness with a bit of Old Hollywood glamour thrown in. So when both blondes went for similar dresses by Versus (that's Versace's diffusion line) with see-through corseted tops, we took notice.

Versace is not for the faint of heart. The edgy, sexy clothes require a certain kind of personality to pull them off. You can't slink onto the red carpet in a Versace. You need to do your best model-on-the-catwalk vamping to make it shine.

Anna gets points for attitude. Her black nail polish (very vampire-friendly), dramatic eye makeup and black Brian Atwood platforms work with the Versace vibe. But Kristen's combo of edgy and lady-like wins. We love the way the sheer fabric of her strapless version continues below the waistline and the fact that she balances out the cheekiness with a

    • Rachel Weisz’s seven best red carpet looks

Mrs. Daniel Craig has been keeping a low profile of late, and the truth is, we've missed her. For years Rachel Weisz has been making smart, sophisticated choices on the carpet with bold colors, strapless necklines, and her signature chestnut locks cascading down her shoulders. Finally, with her new film, "The Whistleblower," a powerful story about Kathryn Bolkovac, a UN policewoman who exposes a human trafficking scandal in Bosnia, Rachel is ready for her close-up again. There's already talk of another Oscar nod for the Best Supporting Actress winner and in anticipation of an award season with James Bond as her date, we thought we'd look back at our favorite of Rachel's picks through the years. Enjoy!

Rachel in a red mini. When you haven't been in front of the cameras for a while what's the best way to come back? A bright red Valentino mini, of course! Rachel chose this frock for "The Whistleblower" NYC premiere. Those aren't capped sleeves, by the way. They're giant bows on her

    • Eva Longoria rocks a $35 orange minidress

Is it just me, or has the "Desperate Housewives" star been upping her fashion game lately?

      EvaLongoriaminidress

We already knew about her appetite for bright, saturated colors. We loved the plum-and-crimson Victoria Beckham dress she wore in DC back in June, for example. Now she's keeping the monochromatic vibe alive with the "egg shaped" $35 ASOS sheath she just wore to the Microsoft Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals. Not only does the color work for her, but the mid-thigh cut makes her legs look as long as possible. Eva is tiny—about five feet tall with a pumped up ponytail! We love that she kept her look streamlined (no jewelry) and the fact that, with all the money she saved on her mod frock, she invested in a pair of Brian Atwood platform pumps to match.

    • We love Marisa Tomei’s “crazy” sexy style

The new romantic comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" -- which stars Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon-- has one of those magical ensemble casts. Every member of the group-- including Ryan's sheet of abs-- is an impressive talent. However, only one in particular can say she's won an Oscar, been nominated for two others and had Lady Gaga go on record saying she'd be her actress of choice for a biopic! If that's not street cred, we don't know what is. Marisa plays Kate, an energetic, recovering alcoholic who finds herself as the beneficiary of Carell's newfound pick-up skills. We'll leave it at that so we don't give too much away. But this film proves that Marisa can do comedy as effortlessly as she can take on a film like "The Wrestler." We talked to Marisa about her style on and off camera as well as fun facts our Facebook fans wanted to know.Marisa Tomei

Your character Kate is, well, a little kooky. What made you want to sign on to the film?

    • Undoing Holiday Damage with Dr. Oz

Every year it's the same story. I promise myself I'm not going to over eat, over celebrate and under sleep, but every year I do. By the time the New Year comes around, I have so many resolutions to make that I don't know where to start. Thankfully, Dr. Oz has some easy tips for getting back on track.

The worst kind of damage we do to ourselves over the holidays, says Dr. Oz, is packing on the belly fat which causes inflammation. We're literally "poisoning" ourselves because the belly fat sends
chemicals to the liver which irritates it and sets off all kinds of unpleasant reactions. Our joints hurt, our energy is gone. It is, as he says, a short circuiting of the body.

      But there is hope.

Here are the five most important things a person can do to undo holiday damage:

      #1 Start walking today.

#2 Tell people. Go public about your goals and get enablers who reinforce your bad habits out of the way.

#3 Sleep. If you sleep the 7 hours you're supposed to, you won't crave carbs as much.

      #4

    • 7 dramatic summer hair changes

For some stars, their hair is their trademark and messing with it can be a dangerous proposition. On the other hand, a dramatic new look signals to the world that there's more to them than what we're used to.  This summer lots of stars seem to be opting for  dramatic hair revamps. They're sampling new colors, returning to old ones, and chopping off inches. We applaud the risk-taking but still, we wonder, are the changes for the best? Will winter be one long growing-out process? Have a look at the seven stars below and don't hold back about what you think of each.

      Vanessa Hudgens

      Vanessa Hudgens

For her new film "Gimme Shelter" Vanessa went short and even cutoff some of her hair herself. The new look makes her feel like a "soccer mom," she says. Well, one with a butterfly tattoo on the back of her neck….

      Evan Rachel Wood

      Evan Rachel Wood

Honestly, I hardly recognized her with her new punk-rock cut. She showed it off at the "True Blood" premiere with an androgynous Dolce & Gabanna vest and trousers. I

    • How to wear summer shorts

Sundresses are usually my go-to summer staple but the must-have wardrobe item this summer is shorts. There are so many options from edgy to elegant and you never have to worry about revealing too much or sticking to the subway seats— a plus during an NYC summer. In this episode, we enlisted the help of Amy, a Thread viewer, to show off the best way to wear five popular shorts styles. See which one you like best and check out our blog below for an affordable head-to-toe option of each!

If it looks like we spent the day hanging out by the water, styling different shorts-centric looks and soaking up the sun, well, we did! It was a pretty great day at the office. All of us at The Thread are loving the fact that there are so many different
styles of shorts right now-- so many that everyone is sure to find something that fits their taste. However, all that choice means you have to think about styling a little more carefully.  To take some of the trial and error out of it, here's a guide to

    • Most searched celebrity legs

Since we're deep into the season of showing off our legs, we thought we'd turn our attention to the legs that are getting the most attention online. In this episode we reveal the six most-searched gams on Yahoo! and, believe me, there are certainly a few surprises. What I love about the list is that they're all very different shapes and sizes but strong and shapely, not super skinny. See what you think, and let us know who would be at the top of your list.

No. 6 Mila Kunis. Everything about Mila is stunning, but her training for "Black Swan" certainly took her physique to another level. She loves to show off her legs with her fashion from sexy LBDs to strapless minis.

No. 5 Jennifer Lopez. It's hard to believe she's a 42-year-old mom of two, because J.Lo looks even more toned than she did in her "On the 6" days.

No. 4 Sarah Palin. Seriously. The former governor is known for skirt suits, but you'll notice they're usually cut slyly above the knee to show off her shapely calves.

      No. 3

    • Sarah’s Beauty Bar

The great thing about the world of beauty is that new products hit the market every day of the week. That's also the not-so-great thing. How are we to know what will make our lives easier, our skin shinier and our look more on trend? Well, that's where this blog comes in. Every day I'll be updating this selection with carefully curated list of brand new finds-- tools, makeup, haircare stuff-- and tell you why it's worth your while. To begin, here's five new things you should own right now.

Mascara is an everyday essential as far as I'm concerned but sometimes you want a even bigger look. Most people are a little afraid of fake eyelashes but the truth is they are one of the most inexpensive ways ($8!) to add serious drama to a look. If you take good care of them (i.e. rinse the glue off after use) you can get a few nights out of one pair. The trend right now is for strip eyelashes in exaggerated lengths that incorporate feathers, glitter, even lace. I say go for ones that are a little

    • Caterpillar eyebrows anyone? We’ve got the top makeup trends from New York fashion week

Those of you who meticulously shape your brows— as you've been advised to do for years— may want to put down your tweezers. We're not sure how we feel about this trend yet, but thick, bushy brows were the universal makeup statement everywhere from Ralph Lauren to The Row. It's impossible to suddenly go au naturel and expect your brows to look like those of a 1980s era supermodel. But if the concept appeals to you, here's what to do: buy a brow pencil that's slightly darker than your natural shade and ever so lightly create the thicker shape you're after with short dashes. A pencil that's not too pointy works best. Add a layer of matte shadow for depth, and if you really want to the look to last, comb through the hairs with a layer of clear mascara.
