    • How to teach tolerance of different cultures to your children...

Several studies have shown that the three common areas in which children will learn tolerance are in the home, school and media. As parents, we cannot control what happens at school or in the media. We can restrict their access to these things, but in the long run our children need to learn how to respect others inside your home.

According to Paula Green, Ph.D, "The globalization of trade and capital has also produced the globalization of humanity. We see so much more diversity now. The increasing diversity we see requires that we teach our children increasing tolerance to prepare them for the multi-cultural life of the 21st century, which is their century. If we don't, we're depriving them of the skills they need to be viable in their world."

We are not naturally born with stereotypes and prejudices against different cultures, we learn them from our elders and surroundings. We can teach our children that everyone is created equal and that we may all be different, but we

    • Raising children in a veggie environment

Hi, I need some advise from veggie parents/kids. I do no want criticism or judgmental comments about our lifestyle, we chose this life and are perfectly happy with it.

My husband and I have been veggie for quite sometime even though we grew up in a meat eating home. We are trying to start a family and we keep being asked what are we going to feed our kids and what are we going to do to ensure that they have a balanced meal. I have done plenty of research on creating vegetarian meals for kids to get adequete protein and vitamins/minerals.

My question/dilemna: Does anyone have suggestions for how to talk to our kids about the choices we made? How to handle when children are invited to bday parties, sleep overs, etc. that is serving meat? How to handle when children are visiting family members that do eat meat and do not approve of our lifestyle (my in-laws have clearly stated that if their grandchild visits that they will be served meat)? How to handle school lunches? Finally, how to

    • User post: A new summer dessert for Adults only! Dark Beer Floats

The hubby and I just threw a post 4th of July party and served an awesome dessert that our guests made funny faces at. We explained that we were serving beer floats. Our guests gave us puzzling looks and said that they wouldn't try it. We handed everyone a small float, begged and pleaded for them to try it, and eventually everyone caved in and humored us. At first they were a little hesitant to admit that the floats were yummy, but the next day, I received so many emails saying that they couldn't get over how much they enjoyed the floats. One tip though, the longer you let the float sit and mix, the sweeter it will be (I think it tastes like coffee ice cream). I hope everyone dives in and at least tries it.

      Recipe:
1-2 Scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream - (being vegetarian, I used Coconut Milk Ice Cream for mine and it was still really good)
1 bottle (or can) of a Dark beer. We used Shiner Black but I am sure you can use Guiness.

Place ice cream in a cold glass and
