    • Paula Deen "In Bad Taste"? Anthony Bourdain Speaks Out

For a Food Network chef as well-known for her Southern twang as she is for her love of mayonnaise and butter-laden dishes, Paula Deen's recent admission that she's been suffering from type 2 diabetes for the past 3 years has some questioning why she continues to whip up such high-fat meals. And no one is more vocal about his disdain for her fatty and sugary fare than fellow cook Anthony Bourdain.

Bourdain sat down with Eater to discuss his reaction to Paula Deen's recent announcement that she's had diabetes for three years now and has signed on with a pharmaceutical company to endorse a drug she takes to manage her disease.

When asked whether he feels Deen's plan to endorse the diabetes medication while dishing out dangerously high-fat foods is hypocritical, Bourdain quips, "When your signature dish is hamburger in between a doughnut, and you've been cheerfully selling this stuff knowing all along that you've got Type 2 Diabetes... It's in bad taste if nothing else."

    • Kids with ADHD: When Drugs Fail, Pass the Broccoli

When all else fails a healthy dose of fruits and veggies may be just what the doctor ordered for kids diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). A study, published in the journal Pediatrics, suggests eating a healthier diet can help to improve behaviors of kids with ADHD especially when they have seen little improvement with therapy and medication.

The New York Daily News reports about the new study which outlines the benefits of eating healthy saying, "Supplemental diet therapy is simple, relatively inexpensive, and more acceptable to patient and parent. Public education regarding a healthy diet pattern and lifestyle to prevent or control ADHD may have greater long-term success."

Researchers stress that eating healthy does not mean parents have to do a complete overhaul of their children's diets, just simple changes may be all it takes to get results for kids with ADHD.

Scientists involved in the study reviewed some of the research from a

    • To Decorate or Not to Decorate that is the Question

Heather A. Monica is a blogger who shares her wisdom with us at SheSpeaks.

The weather is cold. Well, for today anyway. With this weather trend recently, NJ is 65 and sunny one day and 18 and gale force winds the next. Some of you may even have snow. But what is snow without Christmas decorations, right? The twinkling lights, the festive colors, ornaments from childhood on the tree, decked halls, poisonous plants sprayed with glitter and crèches, mangers, nativities, what ever the heck you want to call them, arranged delicately in places where the kids are tempted to play with them and the dogs are tempted to pee on them. The needles on the trees fall. Heck, my 3 fake ones shed worse than real trees this year! What's up with THAT?

The house smells like your cinnamon pine cones artfully arranged in a glass bowl by the front door, the fragrance of live Christmas trees waft through the house, and the aroma of cookies permeate every room. It doesn't matter the pine cones are

    • National Dress Up Your Pet Day

Megan Dunham is a blogger who shares her wisdom with us at SheSpeaks.

Yesterday was National Dress Up Your Pet Day. Are you the type who is into that sort of thing? I'll be honest. I usually giggle when I see sweaters for Saint Bernards or costumes for Cocker Spaniels. I'm lucky enough to remember to get the clothes washed, dried, and folded for the six humans in my family, let alone the two canines we have.

But. I do have four daughters. Four daughters who love to play dress up. Four daughters who sometimes like to include our pets in their play. Fortunately for us we have some very patient dogs.

      Enter Boomer the Fashion Hound:

He's a good sport, no? He will just sit there and take whatever it is my kids will dish out. And on this particular day, they dished out quite a bit:
      Hound in hat
      He's really a great dog.

He came with the house we bought last June here in Oklahoma City. True story. He wasn't even included in the disclosure, but you know what? What a bonus! He's a super Read More »from National Dress Up Your Pet Day
    • My Favorite Reads of 2011

"Living the Sweet Life in the South" is a blogger who shares her wisdom with us at SheSpeaks.

I read a lot of books....A LOT and each year I like to look back and see exactly how many books I read and then determine the ones I liked the best. My list is based only on what I READ and doesn't necessarily mean the books were released or publish during the year. After reviewing my list I found that I read over 77 books from January through December of 2011 and most of them were enjoyable reads. You'll see a lot of writers who always seem to end up on my list, year after year. I love almost anything written by Michael Lee West, Silas House, Jackie Lee Miles, Mark Childress and Susan Gregg Gilmore and they all make an appearance on this year's list. Here is my 2011 Best Reads list : Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen Mudbound by Hillary Jordan Rules of Civility by Amor Towles Goodbye to the Buttermilk Sky by Julia Oliver Georgia Bottoms by Mark Childress Eli the Good by Silas House How High

    • Demi Moore's Tell-All Book: Is Revenge Ever Healthy in Divorce?

A celebrity known to tell-all on Twitter may be taking her dirty laundry to print soon. Demi Moore is said to have signed a book deal with Harper Collins and plans to dish out all of the personal details about Ashton Kutcher's infidelities that led to their recent divorce.

A recent Entertainmentwise report reveals Moore signed the over $1 million book deal just before the holidays. A tell-all book written by Demi Moore would surely make for a juicy read and no doubt fly off shelves, but would revealing personal details about her husband's wrong-doings be the healthy way to go? Revenge like this may feel good at first, but in the long run Moore may be happier if she forgoes the public outing of her ex.

Experts agree that revenge is never the healthy way to go in this situation. Professor of psychology at Fordham University in New York, Harold Takooshian, explains to ABC News why revenge is not really the best medicine. Takooshian says, "Like hate, revenge is something

    • Easy Healthy Pita Pizzas

"Frugal Mommie of 2" is a blogger who shares her wisdom with us at SheSpeaks.

      Healthy Pita Pizzas

I am a big fan of pizza. I could probably eat pizza every single day and at every meal. My kids could too. I am always looking for great ways to make recipes healthier and still have them taste good. The recipe I'm going to share with you is one of the tastier ways we prepare pizza at home without having to compromise on taste. We used to make english muffin pizzas when I was a kid, but I really like the pita crust pizza better. It seems more like real pizza crust to me. I personally like to load mine up with lots of veggies. I love toping it with olives, bell pepper and mushrooms. My kids prefer just cheese or pepperoni. What would you top yours with?

Ingredients to make a Pita Pizza

pita bread (I usually try and find whole wheat)

      shredded cheese

      marinara sauce or pizza sauce

toppings - veggies, pepperoni, sausage, ham, or whatever you want

Heat your oven to 400 degrees and

    • A Battle to Fight Lung Cancer!

"Frugal Mommie of 2" is a blogger who shares her wisdom with us at SheSpeaks.

My father was diagnosed with lung cancer in February of 2011. Just a little background - He was diagnosed with the cancer being a stage 2 and they said it could not be operated on. I will say that it has been a battle for him over the last few months and we are hoping now that treatment is over he can start enjoying life again. He went though lots of chemotherapy treatment and some radiation. The treatments took a lot out of him and we currently don't know how he will feel day to day. He has been told that they can't completely rid his body of the cancer, but we are hoping the treatment has put it into remission. I will go ahead and answer one question because it always seems to come up when someone has lung cancer. . . . . Did he smoke? Yes he did. However, after I found out my dad had lung cancer I started to look into the causes of lung cancer. I was amazed to find out that there are a number of cases of

    • When Wine Becomes Habit: How Much is Too Much?

When imagining someone who has a drinking problem you probably picture a person very different from Vogue magazine writer and mother of two young children, Rebecca Johnson. Less than a year ago Johnson wrote a very honest and personal feature in the magazine about how she let her nightly wine drinking "get out of control". Johnson admits she felt her drinking became a problem, but instead of cutting out all alcohol from her life she went on a quest to try and moderate her habit.

Time magazinerecently published an interview with Johnson to see what kind of progress she has made in the last few months learning to change her nightly routine and drink less.

Johnson realized she had a drinking problem when it became rare to go a night without having at least two glasses of wine. Though some find this level of drinking totally acceptable and not a problem, Johnson saw that wine had become her nightly routine that she couldn't do without. She was having difficulty sleeping and
