Ahh, if only every fashion week had a bit more of Aspen's whimsy and sense of humor (and not to mention coziness!)

Without further ado, the reasons why we love Aspen Fashion Week:

1. Finally, models wear helmets!


Despite an occupational hazard of constant tumbles, models walk helmet-less down the runway. Alas, Aspen has it right! Now if only designer Elie Saab had worked "ski chic" into his couture show and outfitted this model with the same protective gear. (Also, does this mean hat head is in?)

2. The most dramatic looks are super-playful, not super-serious


You know how some looks just don't translate from runway to real-life (like these looks from New York fashion week)? This is definitely one of them, but hey, at least it's ridiculously fun, loud, and totally aware of it. Wait, you don't have skis that match your outfit and the backdrop of everywhere you stand?

When I think of glamour, I think of this photo of model Beverly Johnson from Glamour's May 1973 issue. Take a look at her fabulous outfit-and the accessories I would wear it with today.


The story goes that in 1970, 17-year-old Beverly Johnson walked into the Glamour offices and was given a modeling assignment on the spot. By the time this photo was featured, she had been on the cover three times. It's not hard to see why: she's gorgeous! And her clothes are completely of the moment.

This shot reminds me that prints can be fun without being overwhelming, especially on something flowy like wide-leg pants. Add accessories like the ones here-a wedge sandal, classic sunglasses and something personal, such as this pearl bracelet, and you're set.

Finally, spring is rolling on in! While I'm a fan of getting cozy in my winter faves, I have to admit I'm excited to see more of the sun, less of the white stuff and shed my gigundo parka. But one thing I will thank the cold weather for? The simple style lesson I learned this season.

1. Invest in a good pair of tights! I used to rip two or three pairs of drugstrore stockings a week (and that adds up to major bucks!). So, this season, I bought one good pair of tights from Uniqlo, and they're still going strong-and they'll carry me through until the warm temps come!

I was so excited about my simple little style lesson that I taped the other Slaves to Fashion 'round these parts to see what they've learned this season, too.

2. Susan, your fave Fashion Week dispatcher, says: "A little moisturizer applied on TOP of your tights or stockings helps cut down on the static cling! (It's helpful when wearing the season's maxi skirts and dresses!)"

Red Riding Hood--a dark, medieval new take on the classic fairytale, starring Amanda Seyfried in the title role--hits theaters today, and we caught up with the film's costume designer, Cindy Evans, to dish on creating that all-important scarlet frock!

Five cool things you definitely want to know about the costume design process for this film:

1. It all started, as many great things do, with Google: When Evans came on board to design costumes for the film, director (and longtime collaborator) Catherine Hardwicke had already done a great deal of research into period dress. Then Evans took to the internet for further inspiration--"I used a lot of reference from stuff I found online from old medieval and 15th and 16th century clothing. We didn't want lock ourselves into one specific time, because it was meant to evoke a fantasy, a fairytale." They also used Bosch's "Garden of Earthly Delights" painting for inspiration.

Today from the department of truly bizarre accessories: Jeremy Scott's $500 "underpants" clutch! Who the heck would fork over such serious cash for an item this ridiculous? Lots of people, apparently.

Coco Perez recently discovered that this tighty whitey handbag, from Scott's spring 2011 collection, is completely sold out at Colette, the go-to French emporium of all things quirkily chic.

My guess is that gay party boys are the ones scooping 'em up, but you never know...maybe it's chic for Parisian girls to stow their stuff in at Fruit of the Loom lookalike these days!?
