Being proactive about your health doesn't have to be a daunting task. The first step is to take a look at your lifestyle choices to decide if they're having a negative impact. In fact, it can be as easy as stepping onto a scale.

Dr. Harry Ginsberg, chairman of the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, recommends weighing yourself on a reliable scale at least once a year. What may seem like negligible weight gain can actually pile up.

      By CNBC.com

Sales of superfoods have exploded in recent years as Americans look for easy ways to make their daily diet more healthy.

"Consumers are increasingly looking for healthful nutrients from foods rather than from supplements," says Bob Jones, a principal at Scientia Advisors.

Superfoods are touted for their high nutrient content and disease-fighting properties. However, the health effects of these foods are controversial. While there is no set definition for superfoods, the term is often used for marketing purposes and there is little research on their health benefits.

What's happening, Jones explains, is consumers are increasingly looking for functionality in natural ways by eating yogurt instead of taking probiotics in capsules and eating fish instead of taking fish oil in capsules.

Beer has long been presumed to be the domain of men. The dozens of commercials aired during sporting events by brewers only helps to promote the stereotype of beer being solely a man's drink.

Then there are the statistics. In the most recent Gallop Poll on US drinking habits, only 27 percent of women named beer as their preferred drink. Wine was the top choice at 48 percent. As for men, beer was the top drink (54 percent) followed by liquor (22 percent) and wine (17 percent).

While 27 percent percent might not seem like much at first glance, consider the fact that in 2009 just 6 percent of women listed beer as their top drink. There's no doubt that more and more women are putting down the wine glass and picking up a bottle of beer.

The recent growth of the craft beer industry is often credited with bringing more consumers-both

Parents use all kinds of adorable language when they're talking to their kids - "A doo doo doo! A da da da! Yes. Who's my pretty girl?"

    • 7 Ways to Nail That Dream Job

      By Colleen Kane, CNBC.com
As the Great Recession grows ever more reminiscent of the Great Depression, it's wise to take lessons from the generation who lived it first. Depression-era success stories are peppered with words like "gumption," "moxie," and "chutzpah." While the terms are quaint, their meanings are just as relevant in today's job market, and maybe even more so.
