There may still be some snow on the ground in parts of the US, but a new season is fast approaching. Read: it's self-tanner time. The problem, though, is the actual process of selecting the right product to get the job done, and that's why esthetician Sinead Norenius (and founder of Beautisol, a new self-tanning line) is here to help. She's worked with celebrities like Natasha Bedingfield and Bethenny Frankel, and now she has a few tips on how we can get the perfect shade at home.

• Use a dye color: So that you can see exactly where you're applying your self-tanner, Norenius recommends using a product that has a dye color to it. This way, you'll know right away what areas you've missed and which ones you've already completely covered.
• Go green-gray: To avoid looking artificially orange or yellow, chose a dye color that has a more olive, green-gray tone to it. You'll get more natural-looking results instead of the

Applying self-tanner is a great way to get a tan without the sun's harsh effects. But whereas the product can be a life-saver (literally), it also poses a conundrum, often marking its presence in the form of patchy, blotchy marks and streaks on the knees, elbows, fingers, and toes. "I always tell people, it's [self-tanner is] like makeup. You just have to practice a little bit," explains Sinead Norenius, a tanning expert and founder of Beautisol, an environmentally-conscious sun-care line. • In the buff: Immediately after you've applied self-tanner, use a dry washcloth to lightly buff areas that tend get patchy (like on the wrists, elbows, and back of the heels). "It will absorb any excess product and will soften into those lines because anywhere where you have folds or wrinkles, it picks up some of the color. It's a really soft feathering look," Sinead

Despite being told over and over again about the dangers associated with tanning, it's well known that many people still find this activity hard to resist, and it's not just because they worry about looking pale. Tanning releases endorphins and helps people synthesize vitamin D - which basically means that it puts you in a good mood and makes you feel healthy. But before anybody goes justifying their lack of sunscreen, tanning definitely isn't the only way to trigger either of those benefits. You can get a big rush of endorphins (along with tons of other benefits) from eating dark chocolate in moderation, doing light exercise, having a loved one give you a quick shoulder massage, chowing down on something spicy, or just laughing.
