How to Prepare Your Child for Getting Lost How to Prepare Your Child for Getting Lost After writing about taking Addie to downtown Indianapolis during the Super Bowl, I was contacted by a local hospital about keeping kids safe as you head into crowded places. Super Bowl aside, we take our kids out in public all the time. Some places are more crowded than others, but the panic that comes over a parent when they don't see their child is the same in a crowd of 100 or a crowd of 100,000.

Three years ago we were at Disney World when a woman's son went missing. She was hysterical but thankfully Disney had a very thorough method for finding lost children. Watching her was heartbreaking and I did my best to console her, and in the end her seven-year-old son came back smiling as if nothing had ever happened. (I have a feeling she wanted to both strangle and smother him with love all at once.)

The good news is that there are easy ways to instill confidence in your child in case they do go missing without freaking them out about stranger danger.

Safety ALWAYS first. Safety ALWAYS first. Know Before You Go

    • 7 New Ways to Bake Eggs for Breakfast

Egg-cellent! Egg-cellent! Baked eggs are always a healthy breakfast dish. We often bake them in ramekins and scatter some herbs in for flavor, but recently we've been looking for some new ideas. I scrolled through the Family Kitchen looking for new ideas and found a few great ones. We're already huge fans of the baked eggs in avocados - who doesn't love those? I also got some new inspiration for making bread bowls, baking Texas toast, and found a new way to use my muffin tin!

    • Happy 100th Birthday, Oreo! 10 Vintage Oreo Cookie Ads to Celebrate With

The Oreo turns 100! The Oreo turns 100! This week the Oreo cookie celebrates its 100th birthday. And one thing for sure, it still looks (and tastes) fantastic. Sure, it may not be good for you but it's still an irresistible treat.

The Oreo Cookie has been a family favorite for generations and for good reason, it's been around for eons! It was first made in 1912 in the Chelsea district of New York City by the National Biscuit Company aka Nabisco. The chocolate cream cookie sandwich is one of the most successful treats ever made, with over 491 billion, yes billion, cookies being sold. And one big component of their high sales? Their marketing.

Oreos were marketed via their ads to girls, boys, moms, dads and even grandparents. Their advertising ploys included selling the Oreo as "dessert," as a creation with a homemade tinge, and oddly as something that had some kind of healthy aspect to it ("Let them have another one, Mother, their pure Nabisco cookies.")

Check out this collection of ads from the decades gone by to today.

    • My Son May Not Have a Trophy, but He’ll Always Have Me

He may not have a trophy...He may not have a trophy...My son stood at the foul line, waiting for the teams to line up around him. The score was tied, it was down to the last quarter and the winning team was going to move on to the championship game. An entire season of basketball, blood, sweat and a few tears had all added up to this moment, this game.

The crowd, filled with tired parents who had to drive through a blizzard that day just to be there, fell silent, half of them wishing my son well, half of them hoping he failed.

It was the battle of one small farming community against another and more than a few of the parents inside that gymnasium were reliving their own sport memories as my son took a few deep breaths to calm himself and then raised the ball to shoot towards victory.

And right before he was about to release the ball, the words "Mommy will still love you even if you miss!!" rang out like a bell and bounced off the gym walls.

Rush Limbaugh's No Role Model, But I'm a Slutty One Rush Limbaugh's No Role Model, But I'm a Slutty One I have something to say about the fact that a college dropout drug addict is spouting off on a sponsored radio show who is openly and gleefully calling a woman a "slut".

In fact, I've been saying it for a long time and when I sit down to put pen to paper I am sort of confounded that some kind of defense response is required but then I remember that a lot of people listen to him and my circle of having to explain common sense and decency widens and I lose focus. It's probably because I've raised a daughter, placed one daughter for adoption only to have her return to my life as an adult, and that I'm also raising two sons. Additionally, I'm raising The Cuban's oldest son and his girlfriend. If you think that because these people are still in their teens that I'm not raising them, think again. Even the two newest children in my house have some missing parts in their lives where they weren't given enough guidance or were shown bad parenting. We are having to undo all of that and start
