    • Red Lipstick Diaries (Day 5): Rouge Conclusion

      red lipstickred lipstick

On our last day, we've realized that red lipstick isn't so scary and that we can wear it just about every day once we found the right shade.

What's your favorite shade of lipstick?

      Ariana Finlayson, Associate Beauty Editor

"Today I'm wearing MAC Longwear Pro in Perpetual Flame. This red is more pinky than the ones I've worn this week. The formula glides on super-smooth, but I did apply a lip balm beforehand. (Last night was rainy and cold, and wrecked havoc on my lips.) Not to mention, these new additions to MAC's permanent collection last all day. I feel like this color doesn't wash me out as much as some of the reds."

      Deanne Hess, Director

"I forgot how much I love this lipstick (even though I've been wearing it all week). I do wish I had tried out other colors, but my biggest issue wasn't finding the right shade, it was whether or not this red lipstick could go with everything. This week has shown that while I probably won't wear red lipstick every

Rain or shine, red lipstick makes you feel great! We've each found a color that suits both suits our skin tones and works for any occasion.

Today I'm wearing Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip & Cheek Stain in Flamenco. I've worn this before to a wedding and felt comfortable in it since I didn't have to worry about having red blotches on my teeth. (How embarrassing! If someone knows the foolproof trick to never getting lipstick on your teeth, do tell!) This is a super-bright maraschino cherry red that even after it comes off a bit, your lips are still stained with a pretty flush as if you're been drinking cherry Kool-Aid. (I've definitely been drinking the Kool-Aid for lipstains, because I'm obsessed.) Bonus: These markers double as a cheek stain and are all natural, so you don't have to worry about the factoid about women eating something like 6 pounds of lipstick in their lifetime."

We often look forward to bra shopping the same way we look forward to going to the dentist. It's painful, annoying, and you leave feeling frustrated and often with a very large bill and little to show for it.

Thanks to Susan Nethero, founder of Intimacy Boutiques, bra shopping just got a little better. Make a cheat sheet with these four tips she shares before trying on your usual cup size.

Tip #1: Pick a Material That Will Last

Laser-cut, micro fiber bras might feel good next to your skin, but over time they are prone to stretching out rather quickly. Once your bra starts sagging, it moves away from under your breasts, leaving them with little or no support. It also causes your straps to slide off your shoulder, leaving you stranded there too. To get comfort and support, opt for a T-shirt bra that won't gap and will last longer than micro fiber or an elastic choice.

      Product: ARCONA Peptide Eye Serum

"Right now, I have to say this serum is the product I can't live without (although I reserve the right to change my mind at any given time!). I've been traveling a ton since Fashion Week, and that on top of a move thrown in the mix makes me one tired lady! It's this product that keeps me looking even mildly awake. The serum reduces puffiness and hydrates the entire eye area while also protecting my peepers from environmental damage. It makes my eyes look like they've gotten the necessary right hours of sleep - even when my alarm clock says otherwise."

Lately I've noticed that my hair is thinning. Should I see a doctor?

By the time a woman reaches 50, she has a 50 percent chance of incurring hair loss, says Bruce Robinson, M.D., assistant clinical instructor at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. For some women, though, the problem starts as early as their 20s. "If you notice your ponytail is smaller, or you can see your scalp in areas where you couldn't before, or you are losing more hair when you brush or wash it, it's a good idea to see your dermatologist," he says. "He will determine if hair loss is due to genetics or an underlying medical issue, like thyroid problems or iron deficiency."

Even if you do see extra hairs in your brush or in the shower drain, you don't necessarily need to worry. Although 40 percent of women experience some hair loss by menopause, shedding around 100 strands a day is normal, reports Paul M. Friedman, M.D., clinical assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Texas Medical

    • Red Lipstick Diaries (Day 3): Switch It Up

      red lipstickred lipstick

The jury is still out on whether this red lip trend will stick once the week is up, but one thing is for certain, we have all found a shade that looks the best on us. While red lips look great in photos, in the office, and hanging out with your BFFs, guys aren't really into a bold red lip - they think about how messy it would be to kiss you. Now we're stuck debating beauty or boys. Sigh.

      Ariana Finlayson, Associate Beauty Editor

With just one swipe on each lip, the color is completely perfect. Today I used Armani ArmaniSilk Lipstick in #95, which was limited edition during last year's holiday season. The formula is fantastic and feels just like silk-I didn't even have to prep my lips with balm, which actually prevented the color from sliding. Who knew? Since my hair is pulled back today and I'm in jeans and flats, wearing this bright red, not super-shiny lip color made me feel a little more pulled together."

The second day in, we're starting to feel a bit more comfortable with the idea of wearing red lipstick on a daily basis, but unsure if it's really our color:

      Ariana Finlayson, Associate Beauty Editor

"Saturated color, shiny finish - can you believe that this is a lip gloss and not a lipstick? Today I'm wearing Fusion Beauty's LipFusion Infatuation in Screen Siren. I've worn this in a lighter pink shade and I've always liked how it smelled, tasted, and felt on my lips. The formula is supposed to plump your lips a bit, and as Kim Kardashian as the brand's spokeswoman, who can say they wouldn't want to try?

I definitely felt I had some Kimmy K lips going on. Of course, I would have to smoke out my eyes way more and add in a few wavy extensions."

      Deanne Hess, Director

"Unlike everyone else, I'm sticking to one color for the entire week (Paula Dorf Stiletto) to see how I can dress up (or down) a red lip. Today I chose to rock the rouge with leather

Move over, brunette. There's a new hair color in town this fall. Celebs everywhere have been going dark with the latest, deep red auburn shade. Some have even gone as far as trading in their typically lighter locks for a walk on the red side. Take a look at who easily rocked this new trend, and who needs a color check. Last, get tips from Denis De Souza, colorist at the Andy Lecompte Salon on how you can go auburn.

      Emma Stone's Auburn Strands: SCORE

No question about it, Stone sets the bar high for her gorgeous and glossy dark red color. That's because, according to De Souza, she's matched the deepness of her shade with her skin tone. "The great thing about hair color is that you can choose from several tones within that hue," he says. "Darker, deeper reds will always suit women with fair skin and lighter eyes."

Though Stone is naturally fair skinned (and blonde!), this color actually brings out her complexion. "As the weather cools down, we tend to look pale and washed out. Red

Wrinkles might be the last thing you see near your eyes in your twenties, but dark circles from lack of sleep or one too many cocktails are probably frequent visitors on your face. This doesn't directly age you, but it sure as heck makes you look older. Dr. David E. Bank, MD, suggests using a good eye cream to slow down the aging process and keep wrinkles away longer. Apply a lighter cream with SPF in the morning, like Neutrogena Visibly Firm Eye Cream, $21.99, dermstore.com, and a thicker one at night like RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream, $21.49, drugstore.com. To avoid breakouts, steer clear of creams that contain octyl stearate, which can clog pores and leave your skin
