    • Is It a Good Idea to Plan a 'Play Date' For Your Guy?

By JL Watkins, The GalTime Guy

You love the same restaurants and shops. Both of you have the same gym schedule, and agree that the jerk leading your spin class was a tyrant in a past life. You love her bravado, and she likes your style. In short, you've finally met the perfect gal pal.

Wouldn't it be perfect if you could hang out more often? Totally. There's just a slight problem. Between the daily grind at work and various random commitments, you just don't have the time. Not to mention, neither of you see enough of the men in your lives.

Wait a minute! You know what would be perfect? How about the ladies go out together, and bring the guys along!

      LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP

It might seem like a perfect scenario. Both you and your girlfriend have the same taste and interests, so it might seem likely that your guys should become fast friends. To that I say: Not so fast.

Speaking as a guy who's been dragged into plenty of these situations, I can attest to you that it rarely

    • Iron Chef Cat Cora's Jalapeno Poppers

      By Shira Scott, GalTime.com

I don't know about you, but I'm addicted to the Food Network... and one of my favorite shows is Iron Chef. Cat Cora is the only female in Kitchen Stadium and everything she whips up while the clock ticks down looks amazing. She recently opened a new eatery, Cat Cora San Francisco, at the airport in Terminal 2, overlooking that famous bay. The menu features "innovative tapas and finely crafted cocktails, made with artisan quality ingredients from local suppliers." It's Cora's third restaurant.... She's also got Kouzzina (Greek-influenced) at Walt Disney World in Orlando and CCQ Cat Cora's 'Que' (healthy bar-b-que) in Costa Mesa, California.

I was thrilled when her team offered to share one of her very popular recipes (on the menu at Cat Cora San Francisco) with GalTime. ENJOY!

    • Why So Many of Us Are Getting the 'Royal Rush'

      By elizabeth cassidy, GalTime.com

As a young girl, the world of royalty fascinated me. So much so, that I actually told people that I had been kidnapped and was actually a member of Britain's royal family. Hard to believe, but no one bought into that idea. So I continued to live with this very proper American family. In my heart, I thought it would just be a matter of time before the truth came out - that I don't dabble in reality all that much.

I, for one, love all the pomp and circumstance when it comes to the upcoming nuptials between Will and Kate. You know, that couple from two good gene pools (if you don't include Charles' side) who reside across the pond are getting married this Friday, April 29 th . That's right. Coverage starts at 4 AM EST. I'll be up. If I got up for Diana and Charles, I can get up for Will and Kate. I am looking forward to it because my invite is still lost in the mail.

    • Why Is Daddy-Time All About Fun?

By GalTime's Rebekah Hunter Scott, Author of Motherhood is Easy

I've heard it said that a husband and wife often complement each other. That when one is a social butterfly, the other is a wallflower. When one is creative, the other is more practical. When one is "in the mood", the other has a headache.

And in our house, one can transform our entire fleet of couches into a nine-room palace of pillows and quilts, with secret passageways, walk-in closets and a working elevator, and one cannot for the life of her get just one cushion to stand on end without it toppling over and squishing her two-year-old daughter.

But that's the beauty of having a partner whose strengths are different from your own. My children seem to know who to seek out when they're hurt (me) or when they have a technical question regarding the moving parts of a combustion engine (my husband). They seem to know that time with Mommy will be loosely scheduled

      By Kerri Winick, GalTime.com

Jewel Landers and her boyfriend Chuck have been a committed couple for 23 years. They live together and have a financial routine.

"Chuck pays the household bills. He pays the mortgage. I pay for the cell phone bill and everything that comes into the house, except for the big-ticket items, like a refrigerator, the washer, the dryer," says Jewel.

But the deed to the house is only in Chuck's name. It's something that concerns Jewel. She doesn't want to end up in court if they go their separate ways.

Jewel's relationship is going strong, but a recent survey by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) revealed a 48% increase in the number of couples duking it out in court. Now, a growing number are choosing to sign cohabitation agreements. They're legally binding documents for couples that share a home, but aren't hitched.

    • The Myths About Alcohol

By GalTime Top Doc Stephanie Moore, MD

Everyone at one time or another was an expert on alcohol consumption and its effects. It's fun to socialize and enjoy one another's company at that girl's night out or with your favorite guy. But quite often, the next day can be a bit sluggish and we pay the price for not having the facts. There are a lot of misconceptions about alcohol.

      Myths:

Take aspirin or ibuprofen while you drink. This will not help in any way. Aspirin and ibuprofen actually can irritate the stomach. This does nothing to clear the body of alcohol. In one study in JAMA ( Journal of American Medical Association) aspirin actually increased the level of blood alcohol.

But ibuprofen the next day will help.

    • Eating to Lower Your Cancer Risk

By GalTime Nutritionist Elisa Zied, MS, RD, CDN

With age comes wisdom, right? Not always. A survey commissioned by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) found that the awareness that many cancers are preventable is low, and feelings of powerlessness in the face of cancer increase steadily as age increases.

"We can't control our age, but we can control our cancer risk," said AICR Nutritionist Alice Bender. "That's what more and more research is showing, and that's what people of all ages, particularly those over 50, who bear the highest cancer risk, need to understand. Evidence from the lab and the clinic suggests that these Americans can significantly lower their risk. 'It's never too late' is good news for Americans worried about their cancer risk. We should take that to heart and feel empowered by it."

Bender, a registered dietitian, adds "Eating smart doesn't mean becoming a vegetarian; it means learning how to shift the focus of meals off of meat and onto

    • Making Memories Last With Guest Books

By GalTime Lifestyle Expert Coryanne Ettiene

The spring holidays are upon us: guests are ringing door bells, hostesses are clicking their heels and before we know it, the merriment will pass and the memories of those festive spring celebrations will fade....unless you have a guest book on hand to collect them.

Call me a traditionalist, but I adore reading guest books and leaving guest comments. However the tradition of having a guest book in your home disappeared with the milkman. The timeless guest book is a catalogue of your guests name, address, date and comment…however there are many ways to update this classic memory journal and reintroduce them as a staple of your home celebrations.
