(Guinness Book of World Records)We interrupt your Memorial Day weekend celebrations for some breaking news: THIS DOG HAS THE WORLD'S LARGEST EYES.
Those Guinness World Record fact-keepers have proclaimed 4-year-old Bruschi's cartoonishly popped googly eyes are bigger than any other dogs' on the planet. Just how big is that? Try 28 millimeters in diameter each, or the size of this Cartier watch face, or this German coin, or this insanely large Australian raspberry.
The mysterious origin of dogs
When Bruschi, a black and white Boston terrier, isn't making people feel uncomfortable, he's hanging out with his roommates, owner Victoria Reed and Toby, a fellow Boston terrier, in their Texas home.
It was Victoria who entered him as a Guinness contestant after friends and family constantly remarked about Bruschi's giant gumball eyes.
Therapy dogs given full ride to college
Because I don't like to judge a dog by his eyes, I tried not to imagine Bruschi's disposition as wildly enthusiastic. Turns out, eyes don't lie.

Junior Courtney Beauregard shared this photo of the sit-in with local news. (Greeley Tribune)It's the kind of thing that only happens in movies: students banding together to save the job of a teacher they love.Read More »from Students Stage Sit-in to Save Principal's Job
On Thursday, the students of Colorado's Weld Central High School actually legitimized the unbelievable plot-point, when they staged a peaceful sit-in on behalf of their beloved principal.
When Donald Frenzen's contract was not renewed by the school board, parents and students mourned the loss of their hallowed leader. But a few students decided to do something about it.
Junior Courtney Beauregard and four other students organized the school-wide sit-in, according to the Greeley Tribune. Participants refused to take their finals and instead spent hours sharing with anyone who would listen why their principal should be brought back for another year.
They were joined by 15 teachers, who joined the chorus of praise for Frenzen's leadership and rapport with students.
"He helps the students," Courtney told the Greeley Tribune. "He doesn't get mad at us; he helps us

You know how there are foot-long sandwiches? This one is a foot tall. To get from the bottom to the top of it, you'll have to climb forty layers of meat, or a few pigs and a turkey.
The world's meatiest sandwich, built specifically for the premiere of "Man vs. Food Nation" on the UK's Food Network channel, is more than just promotional material, it's an animal farm. To make the most meat-packed sub ever, Chef Tristan Welch layered ham, salami, turkey, bacon, sausage and chorizo over and over again. A few slices of cheese and some gherkins provided a little extra salt, just to ensure your tongue neatly detaches from your throat and falls on your plate.
All packed together, the meat-wich weighs in at 28 freaky-deaky pounds. It took 4 hours to make, 10 to eat (not that anyone's tried) and 30 years to digest.

Do not be alarmed by the rigor mortis hipsters wandering through Manhattan. They're just products of the recent solar eclipse and that locket you should never have purchased from the grave-digger-turned-jewelry designer.
Actually it's not that exciting. Zynga, the mobile gaming company hired actors to walk around Soho in zombie costumes to promote their new game "Zombie Swipe-out."

Photos: Lady Gaga's most outrageous hairstyles
The British primary school student asked her father, professional hairstylist Marcello Marino, to make her look like a princess for her upcoming class photo. The salon owner went more rock princess than Cinderella, and tied his little girl's long blond hair into a tilted bow, a look popularized by Gaga back in 2009.
Marcella loved the look but her school didn't, according to the Daily Mail.
"When she went for the school photo on Monday she was told she wasn't allowed to wear her hair in that style because of the dress code," Marcello told the British paper.
In fact, the primary school his daughter attends has a very strict dress code, which is detailed on its website. With regards to hair, the school requests ribbons or bows are "made of dark colors, maroon/navy blue/black"

(Eric Krebs/National Geographic)[Shine's daily spotlight of the most jaw-dropping photo from today's news.]
Every year, National Geographic Traveler hosts a photography contest in search of the most dramatic images of earth's wild inhabitants. The submissions, open until July, already boast a fair share of lions, tigers and bears.
But nothing compares to this entry from photographer Eric Krebs, taken deep in the jungle of the living room.
Before you conference call Child Services and Animal Control, let Krebs explain: "It was taken at about 1:30am after my 7-month-old son decided he wanted to wake up and play with some toys...our dog Molly decided to walk in front of the camera and yawn the moment I took this shot." Believe it or not, that mouth doesn't belong to a wooly mammoth preparing to carry the newborn in her jaws to her winter cave. That's just Molly being sleepy.

Jamie Oliver and Michelle Obama may be commanders of a healthy school lunch revolution. But a 9-year-old girl is on the front lines.Read More »from 9-year-old Food Critic Reviews School Lunches. Gives Low Marks.
A Scottish grade school student named Martha Payne has launched her own revolution in school lunch reform. It all started with a simple idea. What if food critics reviewed school lunches? Cafeterias would probably do a lot more to satisfy their customers.
First Lady makes big changes to school lunches.
That's what Martha discovered two weeks ago, when she started the blog NeverSeconds, a daily review of her flimsy cafeteria lunches.
With help from her dad, Dave, the Argyle-based student, photographed her sparse lunch tray daily and offered a Zagat-style rating system based on the following criteria: food-o-meter (or overall taste), mouthfuls (or portions), health, courses and pieces of hair. So far there's been one or two hairs on her lunch tray, but not much else.
One of the first lunches she reviewed included a dried-out rectangular piece of pizza,

For the eight students at a California high school with the same last name-Nguyen- it was obvious their wallet-size snapshots would be sharing the same yearbook page.

So instead of exerting their individuality with the standard Grateful Dead quote and a prom-worthy up-do, they decided to join forces for the ultimate prank. Alexandra, Angela, Angelica, Elizabeth, Emily, Isabella, Madeline and Vi Nguyen all wore the same black off-shoulder dresses and the same hairstyles. Then they went for the win.

Eschewing the optional yearbook one-liner under each of their photos, they divided up two sentences that made fellow students and administrators think twice before making any stereotypical assumptions. Altogether, the words under the Nguyen girls' eight pictures read: "We know
