    • 5 Reasons We're Excited for the SuperBowl, nay, BeyonceBowl

This is the team I'm rooting for. (iam.beyonce.com)This Sunday marks BeyonceBowl. I haven't been this excited for a football game since the New Kids on the Block played the SuperBowl half-time show in 1991. This past week the lady B has provided plenty of reasons to get excited for a game where a bunch of people throw a ball and then stop and then throw a ball again. For all my fellow football non-fans out there, here are five good reasons to get excited for the big game, courtesy of Beyonce's personal photo blog.

      1. Beyonce's game day social updates. She's been sharing rehearsal photos on her blog all week, so she'll probably update her site with backstage photos on the big day too. Want to know how a performer's dressing room compares to the players' locker room? This is your chance.

      2. An all-woman horns section. Beyonce's band has three brass ticklers, and not a one is named David Sanborn.

      3. Lots of inspiration for your next "sexy" Halloween costume. Sexy ref! How did we never think of that? This is the promo photo for Read More »from 5 Reasons We're Excited for the SuperBowl, nay, BeyonceBowl
    • In Defense of Cats: Those Toxic Planet-Killing Pets

A gang of hooligans. (ThinkStock Photos)

Cats are having a Britney Spears moment. After a few years of being the hottest thing on the Internet, they're now being blamed for everything wrong in the world.

Why is everyone hating on cats? Some guy in New Zealand wants them banned from his country. Some other guy in England says they're destroying the planet. And now a study in the U.S. has earned cats the title of "cold blooded killers."

All because--get this--cats kill birds. We already knew this from cartoons. The shocking thing here is that cats are much better at getting the job done than we realized. Our massive street cat population may be responsible for wiping out up to 3.7 billion birds a year--that's 15 percent of the country's bird population, according to research published Tuesday in the scientific journal Nature Communications. On a grand scale that could cause a damaging environmental ripple effect.

One solution is to lock the roaming street cats up and cut down on the 80 million wild felines

    • Jennifer Lawrence's Dress Did Not Rip, Says Dior Rep. It totally meant to do that!

Jennifer Lawrence's dress: stepping not recommended. (Youtube/Getty Images)You know when you find that dress that's just perfect and you're standing in front of a dressing room mirror and everyone is like "You have to get it!" and you're like "Does it matter that I have to hold it together when I move?" and everyone is like "No! It'll be fine. No one will notice!"

I imagine that's what happened with Jennifer Lawrence when she selected that navy Dior satin floor-length gown for the SAG Awards. It was billowing and classic at the bottom, sleek and strapless at the top and really weird in the middle, especially when she moved.

When the actress stepped to the podium to receive her SAG Award for Outstanding Female Actress, the gown appeared to split in half just above her thighs. The moment "drew gasps" from the audience--according to one newspaper's possibly melodramatic account--and was quickly turned into a viral blooper for all the world to see first thing Monday morning. Did Jennifer Lawrence really just live the teenage nightmare of being semi-naked on

    • 8 Ironic Fashion Statements that Could Make You a Flight Risk

This week, the list of things you shouldn't bring on a plan was expanded to include Mandy Patinkin monologues. A man wearing a t-shirt imprinted with one of the best lines in cinema history ("My Name is Inigo Montoya...") scared passengers on an international flight half to death. Obviously it's time for a worldwide re-screening of "The Princess Bride." It's also time to reconsider that joke t-shirt you were planning to wear to the airport. It may be not as comfortable for your fellow passengers as it is for you.

    • The Making of a Life-Size Lady Gaga Cake (Don't Try This at Home)

In the event that you need to build a replica of Lady Gaga out of sugar, you should probably consult with someone who's done it before. That would be Jay Murphy, the owner of Arizona's Kick Ass Kakes bakery and the mad genius who constructed an 180-pound human-shaped confection to herald the pop star's arrival in Phoenix for a series of concert dates. If this doesn't get him a backstage pass, there is no justice.

    • "What Are Sasha and Malia Doing in that Picture?" the Question Old People Are Asking Young People Right Now

Today I discovered an awesome question on a parenting forum: "The sideways peace sign and puckered lips: what is the meaning of this hand signal? My daughter and her friends all do this on Facebook. I asked her and even she doesn't what it means." Turns out no one really could provide this confused mom with an answer--not even her daughter. Do people even know why they do it or when they're doing it? It never really mattered until Monday night, when Sasha and Malia Obama, the nation's first kids flashed the symbol. Now everyone under 30, even those who've never made that sideways peace sign for photos, are going to have to field questions about it. Here's a handy explainer to refer to if someone won't take "I don't know" for an answer. --Piper Weiss, Shine Staff

    • A Teen Mom's Tragic Life Unfolds in Real Time. Why Do We Follow Jenelle Evans?

A photo posted by Jenelle on Twitter after her breakup with her last fiancé in June. (Twitter)
There are some trending search terms we've come to rely on: "asteroid" "antidepressants" and "Jenelle Evans." This week alone, Yahoo! searches for the "Teen Mom 2" star are up 26% with searches for Jenelle's Twitter account—her online journal of up-to-the-minute drama—spiking by 23%.

You'll understand why if you follow the 20-year-old pregnant reality star's hourly updates. On Tuesday she tweeted: "I am getting a divorce, ASAP. YOU F--ING LEAVE OUT OF TOWN AND I MIGHT BE HAVING A MISCARRIGE?! F--- U." Only a few days before she engaged in a public battle on Twitter with Courtland Rogers, her husband of 52 days. A few tweets before that, she was in love with Rogers and eating a grilled cheese from her "honey." In her recent Twitter history there are photos of a wedding ring, a pregnant belly, a paternity test, an a tearful self-portrait after calling off an engagement a completely different guy in June.

Even as this story was being written, more Jenelle drama was welling up. By

    • First Lady in Red: Jason Wu Designs Michelle Obama's Inaugural Ball Gown...Again

(Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images) Most 30-year-old fashion designers would be popping open a bottle of champagne if they just found out the first lady chose their dress for the inaugural ball. But Jason Wu's already been there, done that. The New York-based designer is responsible for the ruby chiffon and velvet inaugural gown everyone's talking about. That diamond-clenched  keyhole neckline was made for someone with Michelle Obama arms. Wu should know. Four years ago, he designed another shoulder-baring gown in cream for the  first lady's inaugural debut.

Still, Wu was pretty thrilled to learn his dress was chosen for a second time Monday night.

"I can't believe it. It's crazy,"  Wu told the Associated Press by phone from his Manhattan studio on Monday night. "To have done it once was already the experience of my life. To have a second time is tremendous."
