When I first heard talk of this calorie camera business, my initial thought was, "I need to get my hands on one of those." But then I learned that they're actually being used on elementary school lunch trays, and it quickly went from a cool, new, weight loss tool to another scary device to perpetuate negative body image.
I don't know about the rest of you, but when I was in elementary school, calorie counting was a totally foreign concept to me. My mom packed me a balanced lunch everyday, there was some bartering for snacks and deserts in the lunchroom and then I went about my day as a normal 10-year-old. It wasn't until around tenth grade that I even became aware of "the evil calorie," an awareness that turned into an obsession around the twelfth grade, and even though I love food, calorie counting will now be something I do for the rest of my life.

Not to sound biased or anything, but my list of what makes New York City so special seems to be growing exponentially everyday. We already know New York has some of the best restaurants, shopping and museums in the country, but my latest obsession du jour has to be the amazing flea markets the city has to offer.I'm currently in the midst of re-decorating my apartment, so I've been spending many a Saturday scavenging through old antique and vintage items. Not only are flea markets the perfect place to score great one-of-a-kind finds, but you get to do it while nibbling on some gourmet treats. Shopping and food in one - what more could you ask for?
Click through for five of my favorite NYC flea markets to hit up this weekend, or whenever you happen to make your way over to the east coast.

My love for writing began because of a brilliant teacher at my all girls school in Baltimore, which lead to studying journalism at NYU. I broke into the fashion industry thanks to experience at Jane magazine, Condé Nast Traveller and Fashion Week Daily, and then joined Modelinia before the site launched to start the blog. Shortly after, we launched ourWant a friend on the inside? Add us on Facebook to always stay in touch.

A while back, I was giving a friend of mine (who, for obvious reasons, shall remain nameless) the usual interrogation that every close girlfriend gets when she starts a new relationship. "I want to know every detail about him," I demanded. To which she responded, "I mean, there's not much to say. He's nice." I knew right there and then that I was dealing with a classic case of settling.
It only got worse a couple months later when I heard that he'd already dropped the "L bomb." Her response when I asked her if she loved him was, "Well, I could." - and you'd think that would've been enough to stop her from saying it back... it wasn't. I don't know how it happens, but it seems like we constantly find ourselves stuck - for lack of better words - in these relationships with people who are just "good enough."

Last night there was a block party celebration to mark the official launch of Derek Lam's collection for eBay (Derek Lam + eBay), which is a novel type of collab and the first of its kind for the online auction site. After 120,000 crowd-sourced votes, the five anointed dresses designed by Derek are now available for purchase on eBay, ranging in price from $175-$295.There's a black gown, some minis, and our favorite, which was worn by the pretty, petite Rachel Bilson - a flowing floral maxi dress. We chatted with the girl who had just hopped a plane from France where she was hanging out with Karl Lagerfeld and watching the Chanel Resort collection walk. Find out what it's like to work with Karl and her two go-to beauty essentials.

Not only could it be making you less attractive to men, but it could also be changing your preference in men. I'm not advocating going off birth control, but I do want you to be well-informed before you pop that pill.
And so do researchers, like Dr. Alexandra Alvergne of University College London, who explains, "We just want to know what we're doing by taking the pill... If there is a risk it affects our romantic life and the health status of our children, we want to know." That's why Dr. Alvergne published a review on birth control in the journal Trends in Ecology and Evolution last year. And she's not the only one - many recent studies over the past few years have all found the same results: When a women is ovulating, both men and women see a shift in mate preference.
When women are ovulating, they're drawn to anything that signals masculinity, like "muscle tone, a more masculine voice and dominant

Call me gullible, but when it comes to weight-loss, I'm willing to do just about anything to get "the ideal body" - and that susceptibility increases the closer and closer I get to bathing suit season. With the countless number of diet programs popping up everyday, it becomes nearly impossible to know which ones actually work and which ones are going to scam you out of your hard-earned cash. Luckily, Consumer Reports took the guess work out of it for you with their latest study on diet ratings. It looks like Valerie Bertinelli got it right, because Jenny Craig was rated the number one way to lose weight.
In a two-year study, 92 percent of the 332 participants stuck with the Jenny Craig program for the full two years. The diet plan combines personal counseling with pre-made, portion-controlled foods. Jenny Craig also includes the Volumetrics plan - which was rated number one in Consumer Reports' last diet rating study four years ago - based on eating high-bulk, low-calorie food.

There are a lot of things I was good at as a kid that I could never do now. I could jump out of a swing at its highest point without a moment of fear. I could swim right out into the ocean instead of hanging back on the shore worrying about what lurks beneath the water's surface. But more importantly, I could braid a friendship bracelet like nobody's business. Where along the path of growing up do we lose such valuable skills?!100 Shades of Brights to Buy Right Now!
