This image-which has inspired the biggest gender debate since Princess Boy- features Jenna Lyons, President and Creative Director of J. Crew, and her 5 year-old son, Beckett. The two laugh as Lyons paints her son's toenails a bright, bubble gum, gay-as-the-day-is-long shade of pink.

The caption under the image reads, "Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon."

The ad, which was sent as an e-mailer to J. Crew customers, wound up in the mailboxes of a few critics at Fox News, one of whom was Dr. Keith Ablow. The result: one of the most ridiculous, draconian, would-be-hilarious-if-it-were-a-parody-of-homophobia blog posts that I've read in a long time.

Victoria's Secret might be out of the hot seat for the moment when it comes to the use of super skinny models. Miu Miu faced scrutiny from the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK following a couple of complaints that one of the models, Kasia Struss, was "significantly underweight," making the ad "irresponsible." The Telegraph reports that, after careful consideration, the ASA ruled that the campaign did not violate social responsibility guidelines and would be allowed to run in Britain. The official ruling stated:
"The ASA noted that the model in the ad was slim, and that the lighting effects, make-up and low-cut dress emphasised her body shape. However, we considered that the ad was typical of those used for fashion products and that the model did not look significantly underweight. We therefore concluded that the ad was not irresponsible."

A new study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology is shedding some new light on the "forbidden fruit" theory, which simply says that we want what we can't have. France might be pushing it with the laws of fashion. The government has officially banned burkas, and as you may imagine, it's not going over well. Protests have already begun against the burka ban, which resulted in 59 arrests in Paris on Saturday, including 19 women who were wearing the veils-though they were arrested for protesting in this instance, not for wearing burkas... yet. Breaking the actual law, which officially went into action today, means facing a fine of approximately $216 US dollars for offenders, but $140,000 US dollars for "men who force their wives or daughters to wear burkas," along with a year in prison, according to the Telegraph.
