There's something about a stark white collar overtop of a black or dark-colored dress, coat or top that just screams "pilgrim" to me, and whether or not that sentiment is correct, there was a whole lot of it going on in Paris this season. Now, this is not to be confused with the "Catholic nun" theme of the same color scheme-which brings to mind what Rick Owens showed for Fall 2011-that is also a popular running trend in fashion. Putting my iffy historical reference aside, the prim, ladylike looks that appeared on runways like Chloé, Lanvin and Louis Vuitton really caught my attention, and I'd be willing to risk a Plymouth Rock-related taunt or two to test them out come fall.

Ophidiophobia is the abnormal fear of snakes... and I have it - no, I've never been officially diagnosed, but I know I have it! They're creepy, crawly and just completely freak me out. So, it's a little ironic that one of my favorite trends for Spring 2011 is python. But as long as we're just talking about the skin, I have no problem wearing it.

"We can still be friends" is a fairly common sentence tossed around during a breakup. It's the kind of comment that makes the receiving party want to scream, "who are you kidding buddy?" Want is the operative word here, because the response is usually more along the lines of, "of course we can remain friends." Sure, you can try to co-exist in the same social group, go to the same parties and politely pretend that you're both ok with the current situation. But let's face it, you'd both be lying to yourselves.

The reality is, staying friends with your ex is the exception, not the rule. In most cases, friends are lost, geographic battle lines are drawn and you have to go your separate ways - for the sanity of both parties involved. I'm not as fiscally-savvy as I'd like to be, but one thing I hear time and time again is that one of the smartest investments you can currently make is in gold. I know that this in reference to the stock and not gold clothing and accessories, but come next fall, the latter looks like it will be quite valuable as well. The collections were certainly gilded this past week in Paris, with designers like Balmain, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood showing glamorous, metallic looks. While head-to-toe gold might be too gaudy for some tastes, splurging on a bit of it for your fall wardrobe is the perfect way to add a little glitter.
