Fans are up in arms over the fashion pics of the controversial basketball star.
Madonna Strikes a Pose for the May Issue of Interview Magazine
L.A. Lakers star Kobe Bryant is no stranger to controversy - although this most recent one must feel like a breath of fresh air compared to the scandals that currently take up space in his bio.
Bryant appears in the L.A. Times Magazine this week with a noticeably darkened complexion, insouciant expression, and dressed in the likes of all-white Ann Demeulemeester, Rick Owens and Kris Van Assche. The result from the multi-page spread? The basketball superstar seems to enjoy playing the role of male model and isn't afraid of going more fashion-y.
But while we applaud Kobe's move off the court, we're not so sure about the darker skin tone. Is this some strange (never mind inappropriate) use of the current blackface trend in modeling? And from the readers in the comments section of the pub, we're not the only ones that are perturbed.

The Best Updo For Wedding Season
Whether your mom is the type that bakes a mean apple pie or is the kind of feisty female that put the fierceness in women's lib, finding a present that describes how you feel about mom is about as impossible as moving apartments when the only car to your name is a VW bug.
But every year around the beginning of May, we all attempt this insurmountable undertaking, knowing that our mothers will say that they love what we got them no matter what (and then turn to our other siblings and say "She always had peculiar taste.").
To prevent some seriously stressful shopping, going the beauty route is a safe way to go. After all, what girl (no matter the age) doesn't love to be feel even a tad more glowing. Below is a list of products to pamper your mom with on her special day, or at the very least, gifts that she can hopefully find useful. Happy hunting!

Whether you're headed to the West Coast or south of the equator, these beach goodies will have you looking the part without the hefty price.
When it comes to prepping for swim season, we often find ourselves caught between two states of mind. On the one hand, we're constantly on the hunt to find that one perfect suit that will work all wonders - make our breasts perky, our bums toned, our thighs appear slim - not squeezed awkwardly into ill-fitting boy shorts. On the other hand, the thought of dropping $300 on an item we can only wear three months out of the year is almost worse than all those crunches we've suffered while prepping for the season.
In short, this elusive "perfect swimsuit" is never easy to come by without a price. And what of the rest of the contents of your beach bag? Those will cost you a pretty penny as well. This season, though, we're turning over a new leaf, and by that, we're coming prepared for sunnier days. Below you'll

The Best Beauty Looks From The Met Costume Institute Gala
It's officially wedding season! And if you have a overflowing list of invitations sitting on your bedside table, we feel your pain. Although weddings are a great place to meet up with friends you haven't seen in awhile, show off how good you look to those aformentioned friends and of course celebrate the union of two people, it also means finding a dress, shoes, and the right look for the occasion.
None of those tasks are easy (nor cheap!), so everytime we find the chance to steal a look (half-priced cocktail dress that will be perfect at so-and-so's engagment party, etc.) we jump at the chance. One way to cut back costs, if doing your hair at home. If pulling your hair back in a chic, simple ponytail gets tiresome, Zahir Ziani from Red Door Spas gives some expert tips on getting an at-home, quick and easy feminine updo.

Top 10 Places to Meet Men
Make your dinner date go off without a hitch! Photo: Sean Locke, iStock
Figuring out what to order on a dinner date can be tricky. I never want to be obnoxious and order the most expensive item. Breaking his bank is for after you lock him down. (Kidding!) But at the same time, I don't want to order something that will gross my man out. Generally, men aren't as judgmental as women, but you don't want to order something and have your date look at you like you've just returned from the nut farm. So for the sake of sparing that awkward moment, here are a few foods to steer clear of on date night.
Food #1: Salad
Rule #1 of dating: Don't ever order just a salad. There are very few guys that enjoy dating a girl with eating issues, and ordering a salad as your main meal sends the wrong signal. Men are attracted to women who like to eat. A hearty appetite is sexy. A guy wouldn't ask you to join him for dinner if he
Time to clean out your fragrance wardrobe with these lighter scents.''A perfume is like a piece of clothing, a message, a way of presenting oneself ... a costume ... that differs according to the woman who wears it'' -Paloma Picasso
We know many fashionistas that stalk the catwalk, but cannot choose a perfume. So put away your heavy winter coat and store the cashmere sweaters. As the temperature climbs, you should take Paloma's advice and think of fragrance in the same way you do your wardrobe - lighten up!
Think woody, citrus, green and floral this season. More important than any marketing campaign, or designer name on the bottle, the fragrance must smell great, have a high percentage of natural ingredients and communicate who you are.
Here are some of our favorites:

French chanteuse Edith Piaf may croon La Vie En Rose, but American fashion is taking the idea literally. We saw pink on the runways of both Michael Kors and the Ruffian girls this past Spring 2010 season, and not your more common rose puckers. Bold pink was big for lids. If applied correctly, the bright color not only opens up your eyes, but also is an easy way to take a daytime look to a night on the town.
Bravon Pascua, Global Master Artist from Bare Escentuals, stopped by our studio to show us exactly how to get the look.
First base the entire eye area with a pale translucent white shadow such as bare Minerals' Snowflake-highlight the entire eye. Start at the base of the eyelash to the browbone and extending over the brows.
Apply a mid-tonal purple, Bravon is using Angel by bareMinerals from the base of the eye lash up to the crease.

After one of our very fave funny ladies, Tina Fey got bashed for her Zac Posen Golden Globes gown we hate to even compare her to a lovely and leggy model.
But both beauties opted for jumpsuits for the 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala last night. Model Chanel Iman channeled Studio 54 in a plunging, blindingly sparkly metallic Michael Kors, loosely cinched with a double-wrap brown belt. The 20-year old model then topped off her look with grown-up David Yurman jewelry.
While on the right, Fey went classic navy in Yves Saint Laurent. Her jumpsuit may not have been as overtly sultry, but we love the zipper detail and classic black pumps, even if we think her makeup artist went a tad overboard in the coloring outside of the lines department.
Who do you think walks away the winner in a one-piece? Or is the jumpsuit better left at

The only time leather and summer are used together is when you're describing how difficult it was to pry your skin off a leather couch because the sweat pooling between your back and the sofa created the world's most powerful, natural adhesive. In general, leather and summer's heat are two variables you want to keep as far away from one another as possible.
However, with leather a popular spring and summer fashion trend you may be swayed to indulge in this typically wintry fabric. The solution? Lighten up with a summer-appropriate color. This white perforated leather pencil skirt
