How to Wear Purple Eyeshadow for Spring
Dear Beauty Banter,
I love making my eye makeup more dramatic for night, but sometimes I tire of the often-seen smoky eye. What are some other fun ways to make eyes stand out for a night out?
Sincerely,
Bored With My Makeup
Dear Bored,
Dramatic doesn't always have to mean dark-- blow the smoke away and opt for a shimmery champagne or platinum color, to be worn on the eyelids only. Or, line the top and bottom of the eyes with a black or deep brown pencil-- work very close to the lash line and fill in the space in between the lashes-- then slightly blend the edge. Go over the pencil with a matching eyeshadow to keep it in place-- finish with several sweeps of black mascara. This look will really define the eyes while keeping them looking bright and open. You can also opt for liner inside the upper and lower lids for extra drama. And, with spring arriving, why not try a more vibrant pastel eyeshadow? Some great colors this spring are lilac or

I love that weather is an endless source of idle conversation. Regardless of who you are speaking with, you can engage them when the subject is how hot, or cold, or rainy, or miserable, or beautiful the days ahead may-- or may not be.
While pending rain may come in handy when you're looking to chat up a complete stranger-- it can lead to serious issues when you're trying to balance the practical with the fashionable in your daily ensembles. To help, here are some tips on how to find flattering, but weather-friendly pieces to get you through spring showers!
Raincoats and Trenches:
When buying a raincoat, it is very tempting to buy one that fits snugly. However, if you can't comfortably raise your arm at shoulder height in it, you won't be able to hold an umbrella-- which defeats the purpose.
Find a trench with a flattering cut that allows for a bit of breathing room, instead of a more fitted style. A version with a fastening belt will flatterVideo How-to: Make Your Eyes Pop with Purple Shadow

With warm weather comes the desire to experiment with fun, bright makeup. We tend to stray from our go-to neutral browns and bronzes in favor of bolder options-- in the way of purples and blues. However, these brighter, stronger colors are harder to apply correctly-- so more often than not, we settle for a translucent shade.
NARS International Lead Stylist, James Boehmer, convinces us that we can get the bold look we really want. He illustrates how to wear purple shadow in just a few easy steps.
Step 1:
Get the shape of the eye with a pencil.
Step 2:
Using a thick brown eye pencil, line the lash line and the crease of the eye. Blend with your fingers or a brush.
Step 3:
Line the lower lash line and softly blend with a brush for a smoky effect.

I will openly admit that I have a big butt. I also found it borderline offensive in the part of Charlie's Angels when Cameron Diaz's character dances to Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back"-- as she clearly does not have a large rear. I'm just putting it out there.
Well, spring is nearly here, which means it's time to stop hiding my leggings-covered butt under long tunics-- and brave the sunshine in a skirt. For anyone else who's feeling a little self-conscious about wearing a skirt, here are a few suggestions on what skirts elongate your frame, enhance your curves, and minimize your booty (that one's for me).
Add height with a mini skirt (above):
If you are petite, try a mini skirt to make your legs appear longer. To avoid looking inappropriate, balance a mini with a layered top. Also, pair your skirt with chunky heels --and not stilettos-- to keep the look from being too sexy for day.

If you have ever a) been able to successfully line only one of your eyes with eyeliner, b) poked yourself in the eye with an eyeliner pencil, thereby causing you to cry and effectively wash away any eyeliner that actually made it onto your lid, or c) ended up with an inch-thick black line on your lid after trying to "even out" your cat eye-- then read on.
Makeup artist Juliya Zaidova has a great technique to help you cheat the system and fake a perfectly lined eye in 30 seconds or less.
Step 1:
With an eyeliner pencil, fill in the outer corners of your eye-- extending the line a little over the eyelid and along the under eye. Don't worry about being too neat.

Shopping Goes Virtual!
For years, we've been conditioned to believe that horizontal stripes are the devil's work-- designed specifically to make us look fat. However, this season's classic mariner or Breton stripes are all up in our faces, and we've decided that we must get our hands on this organic mariniere sweater by Petit Bateau ($88), right now.
The Breton striped top is a classic staple piece that can add interest to looks that would generally be reserved for a basic white or black t-shirt. So, get over that antiquated myth about stripes, and try a few of these styling tips to incorporate the trend into your spring wardrobe!

Five '5 Ingredient' Healthy Meals
If you've ever been asked "have you had your daily dose of fiber?"-- and you're anything like us, you probably don't know the answer. Why is fiber so important, and why are we being bombarded with TV commercials, magazine ads, and food packaging all trying to get us to eat more of the stuff?
To shed some light on the subject, we've compiled a list of the top eight things you probably didn't know about fiber.
1. Fiber prevents overeating
High fiber foods typically require more time to chew, giving your body time to register when you're no longer hungry. This will prevent you from overeating and allow you to eat smaller, more balanced meals.
2. Fiber lowers calorie intake
High fiber foods are usually lower in calories-- enabling you to feel fuller and eat less without consuming as many calories. This will help you achieve the recommended intake of under 2,000 calories per day.
3. Choose fiber-rich foods over supplements

5 Things You Should Know Before You Shop Vintage
I'm going to be honest-- I don't have a single floral print in my wardrobe. My closet is a sea of gradient shades of black and white-- charcoal grey, slate grey, cream, eggshell, off-white... you get the idea. In fact, as I write this, I am wearing monochromatic black.
However, spring is here, which means it's time to break the dreary winter cycle of buying non-colors. Floral prints can be easily incorporated into any wardrobe that's desperate for a little boost. Here are some outfit suggestions and tips on how to incorporate some of the pretty print into your daily look!
Outfit #1 (above): Wynwood and liberty florals are rooted in history as the iconic prints of 1992-- right below that flannel staple, plaid, of course. The Doc Martens and round frame glasses play into the prints' 90s vibe, while the basic white top and classic denim jacket bring the look into 2010.

Designers brought romantic, feminine trends to the spring runways via clothes, makeup, accessories, and hairstyles. Amid the bright pink lips, ruffles, and lace were delicate barrettes, ruffled headbands, and bright, oversized bows.
We tend to stick with what we know when it comes to our hair, so adding hair accessories can seem a bit daunting. This season, however, we're determined to step out of our comfort zones and give these trends a try. If you're feeling adventurous too, check out our favorites this season-- and the best ways to get each look.
1. Barrettes
At Phillip Lim's spring '10 show, the models had skinny red beaded barrettes in their hair-- and we loved the look. A simple red barrette, like Lim's, can be useful in two ways-- it can add a little something to your outfit and provide a great utility for hiding that awkward phase when bangs are growing out. This style works on long or short hair, and looks best with an
