Exclusive: Reem Acra Talks Launching Her First Perfume and the Attention it Attracts

Designer Reem Acra temporarily put aside glamorous frocks and swoon-worthy bridal gowns in favor of something a bit more appealing to the olfactory glands. She's set to launch her first fragrance, Reem Acra Eau de Parfum, this October, and whether you're searching for a down-the-aisle bottle or something for everyday, she's confident this'll be the one. ELLE.com chatted with her by phone to find out how her childhood in the forests of Lebanon affected the resulting scent's notes of amber, orange blossom, and jasmine.

ELLE: How long has the idea of having a perfume been in your mind?

Reem Acra: I'm sure that everyone who goes into fashion always dreams of having a perfume since it completes the brand and exposes it in a different way. I've always had it in my mind, but have been waiting

for the right moment. I've been in business for 15 years and have a lot of fans out there that maybe got married in Reem Acra, and I know they wanted something they could wear every

Iman is using her supermodel, super-traveler status to relaunch her website, Destination Iman, starting with the September issue that features a slew of designer spotlights (Rachel Zoe, Alexander McQueen, and Rachel Roy). The site is helmed by Iman as the editor in chief and Dana Randall of Built by the Factory as the editorial director, and the duo are on a mission to reach a span of the 57-year-old model's fans-from the diehard runway followers to budget-conscious shoppers. "She wants to feature things that relate to her own life and experiences," Randall says. "She's not afraid of touching on the high-end and couture designers, because that is something that is very close to her heart. Hot on the heels of launching an affordable collection for Macy's Impulse, the Fashion Star judge and designer is about to debut new pieces ($39.50-$127) for her QVC line, launching on September 6. ELLE: You designed your Impulse line for the "fun" Macy's girl. Who were you designing for this time?
Nicole Richie: The biggest difference is that the QVC customers are convenience shoppers, and the Macy's customers are department-store shoppers. It's women who prefer to shop from the comfort of their own homes versus people who like to go into stores and try on clothes. I did both as a way to reach all of my customers.
