The Look: Platinum Hair
"I felt invisible until I went platinum," hairstylist Marie Robinson says. Although Robinson tints the strands of A-list celebs at her namesake NYC salon, she struggled to find her perfect shade until she tried the near-white hue. "My own dark brown didn't give pop to my skin or eyes," she says. "Now I'm addicted to my color."
How to Get It: The platinum-obsessed alternate their daily shampoo with Clairol Shimmer Lights and Sebastian Color to prevent fading and brassiness. Try Kérastase Masquintense to condition followed by Rodin by Recine Olio Lusso hair oil post-shower to avoid fried ends.

The Look: Nail Art
"I've been fanatical about nail art for a few years," says NYC-based DJ Harley Viera-Newton, who became "obsessed" with nail designs while perusing Japanese beauty blogs. "My makeup and clothes are pretty tame, so I go nuts with my nails," she says.

model with pink sugar on lipsRare is the woman who can indulge with abandon at dessert and not wonder where a little extra wobble might show up later. We all know that when it comes to our bodies, sugar is a sly villain-falling prey to its siren song (presumably something like an Oompa Loompa ditty) will give our taste buds a hit of pleasure before wreaking havoc everywhere else. But there probably aren't many of us who worry that eating it might also cause wrinkles-and that's not a sweet story either.
Sugar's Harmful Effects to Our Body
The science is this: When you have sugar molecules in your system, they bombard the body's cells like a meteor shower-glomming onto fats and proteins in a process known as glycation. This forms advanced glycation end products (commonly shortened, appropriately, to AGEs), which cause protein fibers to become stiff and malformed. Much of what is known about glycation's ill effects comes from diabetes research: The

By Elle | Work + Money – Tue, Jan 31, 2012 11:52 AM ESTWhy Listening Is Key When Dealing With Sitting Presidents: "You can hypothesize about how someone's going to answer a question, but sometimes you're not right and you have to have the ability to think on your feet or respond to an answer that's completely unexpected. You've got to have laserlike focus. It's quite nerve-racking. No matter how many presidents I've interviewed, I still get the butterflies before I do it. I was very impressed by how intellectually facile Bill Clinton is. You know, he is wicked smart, as they would say, and gets a little prickly when challenged. I would say President George W. Bush was incredibly comfortable off camera but not comfortable on camera. Nicki MinajMany a megastar will turn up for an interview clad in denim or a casual dress in order to appear more down-to-earth. Not Nicki Minaj. When we meet in a hotel room overlooking New York's Union Square after the unveiling of Minaj's M.A.C Viva Glam lipstick, the diminutive chart-topper looks as though she just beamed down from planet Express Yourself. It's hard to know where to look first: the shoulder-length blond wig dotted with pink leopard spots, the strappy peach-hued Hervé Léger dress, or the fox-fur-embellished Louboutin stilettos. Minaj's fondness for wackadoo fashion, Day-Glo makeup, and cartoonish wigs-so many wigs-has established her, along with Gaga and Katy Perry, as one of the most flamboyant and fun-to-watch ladies currently leading the hit parade.
Have long have you been into experimenting with your look?
