    • My Self-Esteem is Fine, Thank You. I Just like Makeup

I consider myself to be a relatively confident chick. I'm not one to necessarily walk into a room and want everyone to orbit around me, but I'm grateful for what my Momma gave me -- and I know how to work it.

That's why I was surprised (and frankly, a little pissed off) when my self-esteem came into question today. You see, I went to makeup school to report on insider tips and tricks like these. And when my story went live, a reader chimed in with the following comment:

"It is sad that women feel the need to put on so much makeup to feel attractive. What a ruse! The author's employer should've sent this poor woman to a psychiatrist to deal with her self-esteem issues, not beauty school to write an article providing beauty tips. My advice: The author ought to … judge herself on her worth as a professional rather than her skill at combining foundation and primer or curling her eyelashes."

Since when does wearing makeup -- and wanting to know how the heck to put it on --

    • 7 Products Worth the Splurge at Sephora

When I'm about to have another "What am I doing with my life?" breakdown, there's only one thing that can quiet my nerves: a trip to Sephora.

There's something about the pristine black and white shelves stocked with new, colorful shadows and lipsticks that puts me right at ease. When I'm there I can be whoever I want to be, whether it's punk rock chic with a panache for glitter or a demure, doll-eyed wallflower with Kim Kardashian-esque falsies.

After my last crisis/shopping trip, I started to wonder -- what are the other women in Sephora buying right now? Are they splurging on new perfume, snagging a bottle of nail polish for a quick pick-me-up, or are they just stocking up on the basics?

There was only one way to find out: Stalk my fellow shoppers and work up the nerve to ask them for a peek inside their black and white bags. So that's what I did (in heels no less). Check out the top 7 buys at Sephora right now. Then tell me --

    • 10 Worst Frozen Foods for Women

For someone who loves eating healthily, it's kind of sad how terrible I am as a cook. I've tried to get in touch with my inner Giada, but she's totally not answering her email. I mean, if a recipe calls for more than five ingredients or uses a word like "julienne," I abandon the project -- and end up sitting on the kitchen floor, eating a bag of baby carrots, and rocking myself. (I make an exception for smoothies that will make my skin perfect.)

So for the time-crunched and other recipeholics, the frozen foods aisle at the grocery store can be a savior. The only problem? A lot of frozen meals are hidden health horrors.

"Most frozen meals are high in sugar and sodium, contain tons of preservatives, and don't have much to offer in terms of fruits, vegetables, or fiber," says Laura Cipullo, a registered dietician and certified diabetes instructor in New York City.

So what's a healthy-eating, recipe-averse, busy-girl-on-the-go supposed to do? Choose the healthiest frozen meal

    • Can't Afford a Birkin? Splurge on a Merkin!

What do you get the girl who has everything? Hmmm … I know, how about a fluffy vagina wig?

Cindy Barshop (she of 15-minute "Real Housewives of New York" fame) has added a new line of "luxury merkins" to the menu at her flagship Manhattan waxing salon, Completely Bare, and they're proving to be extremely popular.

According to people who know these things, merkins, or "pubic wigs" date back to the 1450s and were originally worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia to combat pubic lice. Methinks (mehopes) that Barshop's elite clientele opt to wear theirs for less practical purposes.

Completely Bare, which prides itself on its signature vajewelling and vatoo-ing, currently offers two styles of merkin. You can get a Foxy Bikini, where you're waxed completely bare and fitted with a pubic wig made out of real fox fur (available in a variety of colors). Or, since Mardi Gras's coming up, you might

    • 10 Best Soaps Ever

Let's play a little game; I say a word, you say the first thing that pops into your mind. Ready?

      SOAP.

What came to mind? For me, the word soap instantly conjures a vision of Dial Gold. That ubiquitous yellow bar and its I'd-know-it-anywhere scent has long been an unsung staple in my life. We had it at home growing up, it came with me to camp and college, and now my own family washes with it. It's always been there with me, despite the fact that I never put a whole lot of thought into it.

That's the thing about soap. It serves a purpose, but it's not the sexiest, most-compelling product you're ever going to purchase.

      Or is it?

When you stop and consider the purpose soap serves, putting some thought behind which one you choose does warrant some deliberation. Everyone's skin has different needs. What you seek from your bar is more than likely not what I do, and so on.

To help give soap its due -- and to help you make

I have a confession to make: I hate my nose.

It's too big for my face, it's round, and it's completely void of a nose bridge. And while I contour the crap out of my honker with these makeup techniques, I still can't help but fantasize about what it would be like if I had Blake Lively's nose (or, OK, Blake Lively's entire face).

There's always that one feature that we want to change, whether it's too-curly hair, non-existent cheekbones, or yes, even a Cabbage Patch-esque nose. And when we pick apart our features, we automatically start noticing those who have it best. Which, let's face it, is typically those perfect (naturally or heavily Photoshopped) celebs walking the red carpet.

Wondering which celebs' features are the most requested? Beverly Hills celebrity plastic surgeons, Richard W. Fleming, MD, and Toby G. Mayer, MD, just released their 15th Annual Hollywood's Hottest Looks survey and we were fascinated

    • Sore? These Stretches Will Ease Your Pain

Lately I've been hitting the gym like a mad woman in a desperate attempt to minimize my too-many-sugar-cookies belly pooch.

The results? I'm down two pounds … and every time I try to sit down or stand up I let out a little yelp due to the agony. There's a slight chance I may have overdone it.

    • Are You Wearing Too Much Makeup?

Yesterday I got my butt whooped at work, so I called my always-up-for-fun friend, Scott, for some much-needed cocktails. We were sitting at the bar when I noticed the bartender was really pretty. Her smoky eye makeup was flawless and her on-trend red lips looked like this.

Since Scott is perpetually single, I elbowed him and nodded toward the bartender, saying, "She's pretty cute, what about her?"

"Nah," he replied. "She has way too much makeup on. That's the kind of woman who takes it all off and you're horrified."

      Ouch.

    • 6 Secrets I Learned at Makeup School

A few weeks ago I had one of those mornings. You know the kind: woke up late, left the house with dripping-wet hair, put on my makeup in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

And instead of following these crafty tips on how to apply makeup in the car, I hastily lined my eyes and walked into work wearing two very different winged tips (this eyeliner tutorial probably would've helped). I was hoping no one would notice, but my editor took one look and said she was giving me a new assignment: Go to makeup school.
