I reluctantly put up with breakouts in high school (ever notice how they always popped up right before picture day, prom, any remotely-important social event?) but now that I'm a bit (OK, more than a bit) older, I've had enough. I'm tired of the pms-related breakouts, the stress-induced pimples, and the regular old zits that feel the need to visit from time to time.Read More »from Acne-Fighting Products: The Good, The Bad, The Worthless

It's such a simple question, but with so many answers. I have friends that spend upwards of $200 on a hair cut, and others who wouldn't fork over more than $20 -- including tip. Me? I don't pay anything (one of the perks of having a mom who's a licensed cosmetologist).Read More »from How Much Should You Pay for a Hair Cut?
When we asked TotalBeauty.com readers how much they pay for hair cuts, we got a ton of varied responses:
"I've had my hair different lengths and the most I've ever paid for a cut is $20." -- snowbunny
"The most I paid was like $35 at Mario Triccoci. I live in the Chicago suburbs. When I did have a job I was paying about $25 and now that I am laid off I am doing my hair at Hair Cuttery for about $13." -- bunny72
"My haircut costs me around $50, and I have long hair. I keep hearing that they generally charge more for long hair than they would for the same cut on short hair." -- eminatic
"My $90 haircut sucked as much as my $15 cut. So I'm growing my hair out until I find someone that actually listens when I tell them
I love having oily skin. I love using blotting papers five times a day to sop up the grease. I love that my forehead looks like a lighthouse beacon in any picture taken with a flash (like this one). And most of all, I love how all that oil makes it so easy for new pimples to pop up on my face. Isn't it the best?!Read More »from The Top 12 Products for Oily Skin

While it's not technically a mullet, Megan Fox's hair is coming pretty close to it in this picture. It's totally "business in the front, party in the back," right? (If you need a reminder of what a true mullet looks like, check out this pic of Scarlett Johansson -- yes, that Scarlett Johansson.)
This look has been done on the runways at fashion week, where it kind of works, but on the red carpet … we think, not.
What do you think of Megan Fox's look? Too weird for words or would you rock this style on your next night out? Personally, I think I'll stick to one of these hairstyles if I'm ever lucky enough to strut on a red carpet.
- Need some hair and makeup ideas for an event? Look no further; we've got you covered.
- Can't get enough of these red carpet disasters? Us either, that's why we put this gallery together.
- Need a quick and easy, but still super-cute, hairstyle? Yeah, we have that too.
You need to know about this. At least, if you're somebody who's shackled to a blowdryer and round brush every summer, like me:Read More »from You Need This: Brazilian Hair Straightening
I blow-dried my hair in 10 minutes today with a paddle brush -- and got a look that would normally take me over an hour ... and one or more of these products.
Hooray! And so begins my public service campaign to all my frizzy-haired sisters, spreading the word on the newest thing in straightening treatments -- Brazillian Blowout. Basically, it's a layer of keratin (the protein that makes up hair/skin/nails) applied to your hair, sealed in with a flat iron, then rinsed away. The result: Healthy, straight, frizz-free hair -- that lasts four months.
Since it takes two hours, I had plenty of time to grill the stylist, Michelle Vance, and owner Tom of the Tom Brophy Salon in Beverly Hills:
Q: Who does this treatment work best on?
A: Anyone with curls, waves or frizz, plus anyone with color-damaged hair -- it actually works best on them; you see the most
Ever wondered why you love your signature red lips or how some chicks can pull of teal eyeliner but not you? (Actually, jewel-toned liner is easier than you think, check out this foolproof guide.)
Turns out, your makeup style has a lot to do with every other aspect of your life -- as this quiz (freakily) shows. Take it and find out what your makeup personality says about you -- and get some sweet tips to perfect your look. I just took it and the results were ridiculously accurate -- turns out my love of vintage t-shirts and this lip gloss is no coincidence.
Check it out; I foresee goose bump-inducing results in your future …
- OK, OK, so I'm not really a psychic, I just know a good quiz when I see one. And here's another.

Practically every time I talk with a hair stylist I get the same lecture: it's better to wash your hair less often because it keeps it healthier, the natural oils are good for your scalp, etc.Read More »from Do You Wash Your Hair Every Day?
No offense to these well-meaning people, but I'm still washing my hair every day (I just use one of these conditioners to combat the dryness). Yeah, I know if I didn't my scalp would eventually produce less oil and my ends wouldn't be as dry as they are now, but I frankly don't want to deal with greasy roots or dry shampoo (although this one might just make me change my mind).
How about you? How often do you wash your hair? Are you like any of these TotalBeauty.com readers below?
"I don't wash my hair every day, it takes a few [days] before it's noticeable, and I'm pretty lazy. I do as little as I can get away with. If I use any products in my hair, I have to wash it sooner than without. I don't get dandruff or too much oil, my scalp just gets itchy and bothers me." -- DarklyDreaming
I got a new purse yesterday (yay!) and as I was transferring all my stuff from the old bag to the new I realized I have a lot of stuff! Do I really need receipts from two years ago or 12 different lip glosses (even if they are on this top glosses list)?Read More »from What Beauty Products Do You Carry in Your Bag?
The short answer is no, of course I don't. But that got me thinking of what I do need. What are those everyday essentials I rely on? For me it's lip gloss (clearly), hand cream and blotting papers. I asked TotalBeauty.com readers for their purse must-haves, check out what they said, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's a hoarder:
"Almost a dozen lip products including balms, glosses and lipsticks (self-confessed lip product junkie here!). Oil blotting tissues, tweezers, compact mirror, and hand cream." -- hankatcar
"Lip balm. I am obviously very high maintenance." -- Tailea
"I carry lipstick and lip liner, powder, and blush (as well as oil blotting papers)." -- jayesimp
"I certainly cannot (REPEAT) CANNOT leave the house
