    • The 31 Best New Artisan Ice Creams in America

This summer there are more new small batch, locally made pints than we could shake a spoon at. So we made the ultimate sacrifice and tasted them all to bring you the ones not to be missed. Whiskey sundae, anyone? By Laura Li, REDBOOK.

Goat Cheese with Red Cherries, Jeni's 1. Goat Cheese with Red Cherries, Jeni's
Based in Ohio, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has won national acclaim for its wondrous concoctions. The cherries give this ice cream a nice bit of tartness, while the goat cheese provides an intense creaminess without being overpowering - this is as comfort-food as ice cream gets.

      2. Bourbon Burnt Sugar, High Road
Just as yummy as it sounds, the burnt sugar and bourbon meld into ice cream that tastes just like crème brûlée.

      3. Strawberry Honey Balsamic With Black Pepper, Salt & Straw
The Portland-based shop sources local Oregon strawberries and honey to create an ice cream that is both sweet and tart. The addition of vinegar and pepper is a pleasant twist on a classic flavor.

    • I Don't Want a Day Off on Mother's Day

      By Alicia Harper, REDBOOK.

Alicia and Aiden"If you could have anything in the world, what is the one thing that you'd like for Mother's Day?"

Since Aiden was born, I have always been asked some variation of that question around this time of year. And every time I was asked, I pretty much gave the exact same answer: a day off. All I've ever wanted for Mother's Day was a day off - to sleep until noon, to use the bathroom in peace, to not have to clean up spills on the kitchen floor, to not have to hear, "That's not fair!" for the millionth time, to just…be.

It seems like I was always stressed out with the demands of motherhood, and then single motherhood, and then graduate student-motherhood that all I wanted was time off. Just one day.

      But this year is different.

Since starting a new job last year, I've done my best to "lean in" to my career. I worked the long hours. I sacrificed sleep, and late nights gave way to early mornings,

    • Why 1890s Living is Looking so Good Right Now

      By Lauren Le Vine, REDBOOK.

You know who would totally have a kick-ass blog? Laura Ingalls Wilder. She was the original Pioneer Woman - not only did life take her from the big woods of Wisconsin to the prairies of South Dakota to Missouri, she carefully chronicled the hardships, achievements, and other adventures her family encountered along the way. Heck, Little House on the Prairie has an entire chapter on building a door for your sod house. If that's not DIY, I don't know what is.

The do-it-yourself pioneer woman spirit is alive and well in modern-day females, too, but while Wilder was churning her own butter because it was the only way for the family to have it, women today are doing so because it fulfills an artistic and creative longing. In a piece called "The Rise of the Crafty Hipster, Michelle Goldberg talks about legions of hip young women who choose to engage in domestic pursuits for a living. Whether they feel stifled by the corporate

    • 10 Things Men Hate to Hear in Bed

These phrases drive guys crazy - and not in a good way. We got real men to tell us what they don't want to hear between the sheets, ever. By Anna Davies, REDBOOK.

"When are you going to finish?"
"Sex is supposed to make us feel closer than ever, but when I hear this, I feel disconnected," explains Jeff R., 40, from Keller, TX. "Up until that point, I assumed we were both having a good time. When I hear this, I feel like she's just counting down the seconds until it's over, which makes me feel horrible." Instead say, "I really really want you to climax," suggests Emily Morse, host of the radio show Sex With Emily, and author of Hot Sex: Over 200 Things You Can Try Tonight. "Letting him know how much you want to see him let go shows him how much his pleasure turns you on." He'll get the hint without an accidental ego bruise.

"Did you hear the baby? Can you go check?"
"It's the worst because there's nothing we can do about it," says Gabe K., 34, of Los Angeles, CA. "It's inevitable, and

    • What It's like when Your Child is Mentally Ill

      By Chrisa Hickey, REDBOOK.

If you're a mom like I am, I bet your heart aches at the thought of a sick child who needs help. But some illnesses aren't outwardly apparent, and others are so misunderstood they seem downright scary. That's why, during National Children's Mental Health Awareness Week, I'd like you to meet my family.

It might help to first imagine that you have an 11-year-old son, and that he's sick. You're not sure what's wrong, but you know it's serious. Your pediatrician recommends you see a specialist, but when you call the only two in your area, neither one has an appointment available for eight weeks. When you finally get in to see the specialist, he puts your son in the hospital for two weeks of testing and observation, then diagnoses him with juvenile onset diabetes. You know the word, but you're not sure what the prognosis is or the treatment your son will need. The doctor recommends you relinquish your parental rights of your son to the state, as that is the only

"Marination Brown Session Ale can only be found at Marination locations in Seattle, most notably at Marination ma kai on gorgeous Alki Beach," says Schumacher, pictured here with a mug of the stuff. "It was brewed exclusively for Marination to complement their flavorful Hawaiian-Korean menu. The robust, but not over-the-top maltiness, a restrained hop profile and low alcohol content make this a perfect beer for spending long afternoons on the ma kai patio, soaking up the views of Elliot Bay and the Seattle skyline."

    • Banish Forehead Wrinkles in 3 Easy Steps

Forehead wrinkles telegraph grumpiness, but our expert anti-aging tips and treatments erase them (without going near a needle). By Ning Chao, REDBOOK.

Freeze lines in their tracks The first step to softening the look of forehead wrinkles is plain old relaxation: The less you frown, the fainter they'll be (harder than it sounds, we know). Start by raising your electronics to eye level, says facialist Nichola Joss of London's Sanctuary Spa, whose clients include Gwyneth Paltrow. "People stare down at a phone or up at a computer screen, and they squint without even realizing it," she says. "Changing those angles eases the tension in your forehead immediately." Then you've simply got to cut down on your facial expressions. "It sounds silly, but if you put a piece of paper tape on your forehead for a day, you'll become mindful of how you move those muscles-and can train yourself to stop," says Mary Lupo, M.D., clinical professor of dermatology at Tulane University. You could even be
