    • What's Up With the Sky-High Heels on These Maternity Models?

Maybe I was a total frump when I was pregnant, but I darn sure didn't wear any shoes with a heel higher than 2 inches. My feet and ankles were swollen so badly during my last trimester, that I had to do the unthinkable--wear sneakers with my work dresses. I know, horrifying.

But check out these pics of "pregnant" models I snagged from a maternity clothes website. The clothes are fine, but what is going on with their shoes? I don't think I could walk in those shoes now, let alone when I was carrying 40 extra pounds of baby weight.

My question is, why do you think maternity stores are using these insanely impractical shoes to market maternity clothes? Because they make the models' legs look skinnier? Because the high heels make their clothes look better than ballet flats? Maybe it's just me, but I rarely see real pregnant women on the street walking around in shoes like this.

Share your thoughts in the comments. Should maternity models be shown in both clothes and shoes

    • Am I Spoiling My 2-Year-Old?

When I was pregnant, I fantasized about being a stay at home mom. I dreamed about all the fun ways I would spend my days with my little girl and all the amazing things we'd do. Well, that didn't happen. In part because I needed to work for the money, but I also really missed working. After 3 months of maternity leave, it was hard for me to go back to work, but when I eventually got into the groove, I liked being a working mother.

      Oddly, though, as my daughter

has gotten older--she's 2--it's been harder and harder for me to leave her every morning. Just as I'm leaving for work every day she says, "Where are you going?" I explain that I'm going to work and then the "Whys" begin. It eventually ends with her saying "No, stay home and play with me" and me promising to bring her a surprise after work just so I can get out of the door.

Which leads me to my question. I don't bring her a gift every single day, but I do typically bring some little trinket home for my daughter 3-4

    • Hmm, Maternity Belly Button Rings for Expectant Moms... What Do You Think?

Once upon a time, I was wild child. I got multiple tattoos and piercings within the span of a few years and yes, one of those was a belly button ring. In retrospect, it was a completely ridiculous way to spend my time and money, but I do remember having fun with my girlfriends at the time. The point is, when I found out I was pregnant I quickly got rid of that navel ring. "You can't wear a belly button ring with a huge baby bump," I thought.

Apparently, I was wrong. Yes, they make maternity belly button rings. I've been looking at that pic for a few hours now, but it's still making me cringe. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but there's something that makes me queasy about seeing a piercing on a pregnant belly.

Wondering what makes a maternity belly button ring different? The little bar between the balls is longer and more flexible to accommodate a growing belly. Fascinating, right?

Okay, now let's be serious: how many of you expectant moms are still

    • Drinking While Pregnant? I'm Sorry, I Just Don't Get It

Last night I was at an event for work and as with most events here in N.Y.C., there was alcohol. I will say this upfront, I'm not a drinker. I've never been a drinker. I can probably count the number of times I've ever had a sip of alcohol. That being said, I have no problem with people drinking around me--in moderation, of course.

Back to last night. One of the other guests was pregnant--not showing, but she still put it out there that she was expecting--and she openly threw back about 1/4 glass of champagne. You could see a few other guests were a little surprised, so then another woman said her doctor actually recommended she have a cocktail to help quell early contractions. Everyone laughed it off, the party went on and it was forgotten within a few minutes. By everyone except me, that is.

The entire ride home, I couldn't stop thinking about it. I know some doctors say an occasional glass of alcohol probably won't hurt, but it's still one of those things that makes

    • Are You Ready for This? A Pacifier With an Automatic Close!

We've all seen it. I know I've seen it way too many times. Baby's pacifier falls on the ground and either mom is forced to deal with a fussy baby until she can properly sanitize the paci or she half-heartedly wipes it off and pops it back into baby's mouth. It's the dilemma of the fallen paci.

But now, the dilemma is solved thanks to the RazBaby Keep-it-Kleen pacifier. Are you ready for this? The Keep-it-Kleen pacifier comes with an automatic shut! So when it falls, these two lids automatically snap over the nipple so it stays germ-free. Genuis, right?

Even better, they're cheap! Less than $5 for a paci you won't have to disinfect the heck out of. Love that!
