Sadie, my daughter, is 20 months old, and I haven't yet had any feelings of baby name regret. But this article on nytimes.com about got me thinking about my own naming experience.

I named my daughter after Jude Law's ex-wife. Sort of. I fell in love with her name while reading some gossip site about his cheating habit, so when I found out I was having a girl, my naming decision was already made. Shallow, I know, but it's true.

I do sometimes regret that Sadie's name doesn't have a sentimental backstory - it's not my grandmother's name, and it's not a name I'd had picked out forever - but I still think it's beautiful.

If we're honest, we can barely afford anything for ourselves on the current site, so we highly doubt we'll be able to treat our kids to anything from the children's version. This headline caught my eye while reading nymag.com yesterday: Are New York's Pregnant Shoppers Feeling a Little Too Entitled Lately? Interesting, I thought as a New Yorker and former pregnant person, so I read on. The piece recounted two stories of pregnant women trying to get to the front of long lines in stores. The article starts out relatively objective, then turns snarky when the author writes, "Seems if they want pregnancy charity they should stick to booting people out of subway seats."

Ouch. The commenters get even more hostile, which, as an NYC mom who's had to tote her baby up 4 flights of stairs and maneuver her in crowded buses, ruffled my feathers.

It's never courteous to try to skip other customers in a line, ok. But it's also not unreasonable for a woman who is visibly pregnant to expect to be offered a seat on a crowded train.
