    • Olympic Fashion News: No More Bikinis?

In today's Olympic fashion news, it looks like there may be fewer bikinis on the beach volleyball court. Olympic officials have ruled to change the dress code, so players are no longer required to wear bikinis. This is an effort to please nations with religious concerns about revealing clothing. But there's also a practical element to it, since London is known to get pretty chilly, even in the summertime.

But, the U.S. volleyball team isn't ditching their beloved bikinis anytime soon. Even though it's allowed, the team announced they won't be playing in shorts because it's actually easier and more comfortable for them to play in a swimsuit. One player, Misty May-Treanor, said she prefers competing in a bikini because, "What you see is what you get -- there's no airbrushing."

    • Not Buying Anything New for Five Years: Not as Hard as You Think

Just this weekend I bought a handful of brand-spanking new things: a wedding gift for a friend, a pair of cheap pink sunglasses, and nail polish. But one woman from Portland hasn't bought anything new (except for food and personal care items) for five years. Katy Wolk-Stanley of Portland, Ore. is a member of The Compact, a group who aims to borrow or buy used instead of buying any new consumer products.

When I first heard this, I thought um, no way. There's no way I could go more than even a month without buying something new. When I go to the mall "just to browse," I almost always walk out with a purchase, even if it's just a $5 trinket. How did this woman stave off the dreaded shopping itch for five long years? Then I realized … she didn't.

Even though Katy Wolk-Stanley got creative with her purchases -- sifting through thrift stores and vintage shops instead of buying new -- she was still buying stuff. That "shopping

    • Mother-Daughter Duo to Pay $44 Million for Selling Fake Coach Bags Online

In today's mother-daughter criminal news, the luxury handbag brand Coach won a $44 million dollar lawsuit against Linda and Courtney Allen for running two counterfeit bag websites: Bellafashions.net and MyClassyFashion.com. Yikes. We say $44 million is a pretty hefty fine. As reported by WWD, a Coach representative explained they were very happy with the harsh sentence, saying, "This decision should also serve as notice to all who traffic in counterfeit goods that Coach will vigorously pursue you, and will win."

Clearly, Coach isn't kidding around. And didn't the mother-daughter duo see this coming? (They were sued for selling counterfeit goods by Chanel in 2007.) Selling the imposter bags online is pretty much asking for a lawsuit, since it's so easy for luxury labels to track down the website's owners and slap them with a huge lawsuit. But $44 million is a lot of money -- probably more than these suburbanites can ever

We know what you're thinking: I'm not wearing lingerie outside the bedroom. Luckily, the sheer summer trend is about a peek-a-boo of skin, and not an entire reveal -- way sexier in our opinion. And we've found some fabulous sheer options that allow you to show off while still covering up. The best part? You can wear this style in a multitude of ways, from a demure sheer maxi skirt to a daring sheer top with lace bandeau.

      No 1. Nude and Neon

The key to pulling off sheer maxi skirts is by wearing a knee-length slip underneath. Pair a high-waisted bright skirt with wedges (so you don't trip over the hem) and a nude crop top for sheer perfection.

    • Deodorgrams: Clever or Horrendous?

You know when a friend offers you a mint and you wonder if they are subtly trying to say your breath is funky post-tuna fish sandwich? Well, Deodorgrams takes this kind of polite hinting to a whole new level. If you have a friend or coworker who suffers from bad B.O. -- and you can't broach the subject without feeling super awkward -- all-natural body care brand G.B. Proudfoot suggests you send one of their Deodorgrams as a "gift" anonymously.

    • Is Putting Older Women in Fashion Ads the New Trend?

Just a couple weeks ago American Apparel featured a 61-year-old woman in their ad campaign -- a pretty shocking move for a company who typically puts half-naked, young 20-somethings in their ads. The gray-haired model is the face of their new "Advanced Basics" campaign, aimed at an older audience. And it seems like this trend has taken off. Lanvin's new fall 2012 campaign features non-models of all ages (mere mortals like ourselves!) in the ads, including one especially chic 80-year-old woman.

Related: 9 Fashion Week Secrets Revealed

Lanvin's designer Alber Elbaz told WWD, "I was interested to bring these clothes back to the street somehow, and seeing how they look on different ages, different sizes. It felt like a crazy family, and I like that." While it may seem bold, it's actually a pretty savvy move to put older women in fashion advertisements, because they're the ones buying the clothes. In fact, the National Retail Federation found that people aged 50-to-65

    • Gaga Bucks the Traditional Perfume Ad Trend -- and We like It

Lady Gaga's official perfume ad campaign is out, and "provocative" doesn't even begin to describe it. The ad, for her fragrance Fame, features a giant naked Gaga with tiny men crawling all over her body. Are we even slightly surprised? Keep in mind this is for a perfume that was supposedly created from samples of her blood. And Gaga has described the scent by saying, "It smells like an expensive hooker." Of course the ad is going to be out there.

But once you get over the initial shock of seeing miniature men scaling Gaga like she's Mount Everest, the advertisement is really more clever than it is gross or gratuitous. After all, the message "this perfume will have men crawling all over you" in a fragrance ad is nothing new. It's the idea behind almost every single traditional perfume campaign out there. Is Gaga poking fun at these conventional fragrance ads? Or subverting the typical sexy, good girl image for a woman not afraid to

    • Kate Middleton on the Cover of Marie Claire … Kinda

The August issue of "Marie Claire" South Africa is making us do a double take. None other than Kate Middleton appears on the cover wearing a South African designer dress. Wait, what? Nobody can score the Duchess for a magazine cover. What kind of strings did they have to pull to get Kate on board? None apparently, because this cover is courtesy of an illustration.

      Related: 12 Biggest Photoshop Disasters

Were you fooled? We admit, this thing looked totally legit at first, until we got a closer look and saw the pencil strokes around Middleton's hair. Other than that, this looks like the real deal. We have to hand it to whoever mocked up the cover for having some major drawing skills (and guts). But, isn't this kind of shady? It makes it look like "Marie Claire" SA snagged Kate Middleton -- who is pretty much the most coveted celebrity for any woman's magazine -- for their cover, when they really didn't.
