Barack Obama and John McCain were also called upon to discuss the negativity of their respective campaigns, during which they frequently referred back to "Joe the plumber," a small business owner Obama met in Ohio.
Going into the debate, John McCain was under pressure to give a strong performance after Obama had taken the lead in opinion polls following the last few weeks of economic distress. McCain did come across as more aggressive--some pundits commented that he appeared overly emotional in his reaction shots. Many also said McCain was strong in the first half hour of the debate, but then started to lose his cool. Johnny Depp took the #1 spot, beating out fellow fortysomethings George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Daniel Craig as the hottest celeb. Only three men in their 20s made the list at all--Jake Gyllenhaal, James McAvoy and Justin Timberlake.
"Both George Clooney and Johnny Depp just keep getting better with age," says Lizzi Hosking of Cosmopolitan. With 55-year-old Pierce Brosnan sitting comfortably at #19 on the list, it seems ladies are enjoying the fine wines of Hollywood very much.
