    • 4 Carbs that Are Actually Healthy and Slimming (We Promise!)

Carbohydrates get a bad rap. We toss the bread from our sandwiches, avoid tortillas, and ignore rice--I'm as guilty of giving carbs the occasional cold shoulder as anyone. (Poor potatoes!)

But I just watched this short video--"Debunking the Diet: Is Carb a Four-Letter Word?" (it's part of a video series produced by Luna Bar)--and, for me, it provided a nice reminder that we all need a certain amount of good carbohydrates every day for our brains and bodies to...well, work, really. (And I especially love how the dietitian in the video says that we shouldn't call foods "good" and "bad"--let's eat whatever we want, it's all about moderation!)

Of course, not all carbs are created equal. Cakes, doughnuts, sugary muffins, even some breads made with refined flours...they lack nutrients, and eating enough of them may raise your risk of developing diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

And here's another one to add to the list: researchers say that sex might actually help ease migraine pain. In a study of 800 migraine sufferers and 200 people with cluster headaches, more than half of the migraine sufferers said their head pain substantially subsided after being intimate with their partners. The researchers suggest that the endorphins released during sex can help kill headache pain:

"Our results show that sexual activity during a migraine attack might relieve or even stop an attack in some cases, and that sexual activity in the presence of headache is not an unusual behavior. Sex can abort migraine and cluster headache attacks, and sexual activity is used

    • Should Smoking Be Banned on All College Campuses?

      Conde Nast

      by Lexi Petronis, Glamour

Right now, more than 1,000 university campuses across the country have banned smoking from anywhere on college grounds--with more signing on in the next few years. (In fact, some experts expect that college campuses will be entirely tobacco-free in the next 20 years.)

And honestly, I was momentarily surprised that more campuses aren't tobacco-free--mostly because it seems like there aren't that many places that still do allow smoking, you know what I mean?

The first universities started going tobacco-free in 2003; according to the Centers for Disease for Control and Prevention, the prevalence of smoking has gone from 24.4 percent to 18.9 percent in people aged 18-25 just during the 2005-2011 time period. Obviously, you can't say one is because of the other. Still, according to Ty Patterson, director of the Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy, the overall goal is to help

Did you think you wouldn't have to hear the word "resolution" again until...2014? Nah, we may have made our health goals for the year five weeks ago, but that doesn't mean they're forgotten. Right?

Actually--according to a survey by Hampton Hotels, only one-third of people who make New Year's resolutions actually plan on keeping them all year long.

So I talked to Dr. Christine Carter, happiness expert (I so want that title) and author of Raising Happiness, to get some tips for those of us whose resolutions have started to falter about getting back on track. After all, we made those goals for a reason, right?
