What you take with you into the afterlife is your consciousness, your presence of mind. This is why it's a good idea to stay away from street drugs--they interfere with your presence of mind. You share your presence of mind with God. Those who cloud their presence of mind with street drugs are atheists--they think God is dead when they are the ones who are dead in the head. Sooner or later they find their consciousnesses. So, get off the street drugs and find God.

What the country needs is middle class negotiators, go betweens between conservatives and liberals who are polarized in places like Congress. Ted Kennedy was a good one, but we need more. Negotiators who can see both sides of the fence and negotiate give and take. Compromise can work, but only if you can get each polarized side to listen, and not be stranded in their views. You literally have to burn the midnight oil in both camps. And if they still won't negotiate, you have to be prepared to camp out, sleep in both camps. If you can't listen to their realities, you must listen to their dreams, find the middle ground between dreams and reality.
If the rich only knew how much withdrawal they had to do to get to Heaven, they wouldn't hold on to so much of their wealth. That's all Hell is, one enormous power sucking machine.
A centralized system falls apart because of its own dead weight. You can tell if a system is centralized. There's a war going on. In a decentralized system, there is an easier flow of ideas as well as goods and services. In a decentralized system, Spirit comes back. If Obama will decentralize the system, he'll see rapid recovery as everyone can breathe freely again. All it takes is patience.
I know the nature of the corruptibility of power. A 50 cent beer tastes just as good as a $1000 bottle of wine. A hamburger tastes as good as a steak. The taste buds don't know the difference. One way or another, we all get our fair share.
I do not think Americans should go hungry to pay for the war in the Middle East. We not only need to satiate our hunger for food, we also need food for thought, ideas. The way to share ideas is to put down our guns and communicate freely. You'll find that the ability to reason and discuss ideas is basically free. All you need to do is put down your guns and talk. This is how we'll find peace in the Middle East. I'm sure we have something useful to share, as do they. But it's pretty hard to talk when the warring factions are firing weapons at one another. In the face of deterrence, you use discretion. That's how you get by.
The biggest thing I learned in college is that the military option currently used by the U.S. government is a poor option. The idea is to use ones head to reason ones way out of trouble and not the use of violence. General Petraeus has some learning to do, and the only thing we can do is be very, very patient until he does. Apparently Petraeus did not learn the lesson of Vietnam. I don't think he read the book, "All Quiet on the Western Front" either.

What has been the classic problem of Europe, China, India, and is becoming the problem of the U.S.? Overpopulation pressure. When there are too many mouths to feed for a finite level of resources, the military looks awful inviting. Hitler came to power because he promised the German people bread and "Lebensraum" (elbow room). Before Hitler's rise to power in the inflationary Weimar Republic after WWI, it cost a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. The Germans were starving.
