"How we spend our days is, of course how we spend our lives." Anne Dillard writer (1945- )

During my afternoon walk, I noticed that someone had etched their name into the sidewalk cement. I felt compelled to read their message and while it said very little, it certainly made a statement.
For as long as that slab remains, that person's name will bear witness that in a particular time and place they had left their mark.

Many of us spend our days not really thinking too much about what we are doing with our time. We seem to think that it is limitless. The reality is though, that every one's time is limited and how we spend it determines the quality of our lives. If each of us lived with that thought in mind, just think about the impact we could make collectively.

Have you thought about leaving your mark in the world? Every day that you live, is an opportunity to leave your hand print and to make a difference in someone

"The problem with the world is that we draw the circle of our family too small." Mother Theresa

If you have ever participated in a yoga class, at the end most teachers bring their hands together in front of the heart, bow their head and say "Namaste" and the students respond in kind.

Ever wonder what Namaste means? A good definition would be "I bow to your true self". The true self might be seen as the authentic you without pretension, less connected to ego and social expectations. Ending a yoga class or greeting those we meet with Namaste in our hearts is a wonderful way to honor the true self in each of us.

When you engage with people today, see how alike we all are, despite our differences. Let Namaste begin with you and live within each of us to make this world a much better place.

I wonder if there will ever come a time when books become obsolete?

One of my greatest and simplest joys is winding down at the end of my day, and curling up with my cats, my husband and a good book. There is something intimate about actually holding it and turning the pages that computer technology just can't replace.

"Books are not simple inanimate objects that carry information. They are energetic connections among their authors and every single person who has ever read them." Jillian Quinn

So while it might look like just paper, ink and glue, every page is a reflection of someone's heart, mind and soul. Their words transcend time or place to speak, engage and even comfort us. I love books because for me holding them is a direct connection to the spirit of the writer.

Have you thought about writing a book and what your message would be?

"Your sacred space is where you find yourself again and again." Joseph Campbell

Today was one of those days when I indulged myself in the luxury of simply doing nothing!

I curled up in front of the TV, watched a mindless science fiction movie and felt warm and snuggly under a pile of blankets as I savored a cup of chamomile tea with honey. I don't remember the last time I allowed myself a full leisurely day without any thoughts, expectations, concerns or agendas. It was sheer bliss!

I realized today how important it is to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health to take the time we need and in fact to set aside some complete downtime in our lives. The trick is to make this a priority, no guilt allowed.

Are you like me, busy doing and forgetting to make more time to just be? Today I told myself I deserved some down time and I enjoyed every moment of it. Relaxation is the best and most healing way to

"If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it." Margaret Fuller, writer (1810-1850)

What comes easily to you may not come easily to someone else. In fact, what you have to share may be exactly what that other person needs. So don't hold back; share what you have to offer. Imagine how much light we can spread if we all share our wisdom and knowledge with each other.

      True Colors
2010-03-28 True Colors2010-03-28 True ColorsIf you ask a five year old what their favorite color is you will probably get a straight answer; one of the primary or secondary colors or perhaps pink for little girls. As a child I had so many favorite colors that my response became a litany; deep cobalt blue, all shades of purples, aqua, and mint green, until I learned that all colors where contained in the color white, then white became my favorite color because I simply couldn't choose just one.

When my older sisters chose basic colors for their wardrobe, I was often teased when I wore my purple patterned skirt with the violet sweater, so for a time, I denied my real color preferences so I could fit in. Later in life I learned that all the things that made me different then, are all the gifts that make me unique now.

As an artist I love color, especially purple and today I have a purple cell phone cover, a purple mug for my tea, a purple, pen and a purple car.

I've never been one of those people who journals every day, but I often write in a diary or pick up a legal pad when I need to find clarity. It's those times that I discover the power of writing to guide me. This may sound strange, but when I am most troubled or confused, I ask myself a question and watch the mystery unfold as answers come back to me through my own words on the page. There is an amazing power inherent in journaling; the conscious mind relaxes allowing the unconscious or some higher, greater power to speak the truth, to help me heal, to offer some direction and clarity.

A dear friend sent me a "care package," it included a beautiful journal. I can't think of a more perfect gift than her opening the way for me to fill those blank pages. As my thoughts and feelings flow onto the page, I am excited to see

Facing a fate we cannot change, we are called upon to make the best of it by rising above ourselves and growing beyond ourselves.
Viktor Frankl, Austrian Psychologist and Writer, Holocaust Survivor (1905-1997)

I had the opportunity to meet an extraordinary young woman today. What struck me immediately was the tattoo on her forearm. I asked her about it and without hesitation she opened up to me and told me her story.

A few years before something unpredictable and horrible beyond words had happened to her, she had been raped. This tattoo was a symbol to her and to the world that she would not be a victim of her circumstance, she had and would rise above. She had decided that there would be no limitation in her heart or on her spirit despite what had occurred.

I listened and I learned from her. For me she was a shining example of what it means to move on and to triumph.

There are lessons like this one

"Within your heart keep one still secret spot where dreams may go."
      Louise Driscoll, poet (1875-1957

Everything that is created must first begin with a dream. Someone has a vision, allows it to take shape, puts their energy into it and believes enough in its possibility to breathe life into it. That one person's dream supported by their passion becomes contagious. There is no limit to what can happen when others become involved, believing in that same dream and working together, miracles do happen.

We all have dreams, some feel worth our time and effort; others we let slip away telling ourselves it's too unrealistic, too difficult, or too bold. Not all dreams are worth pursuing, but every dream that comes from your heart and moves your spirit is worth considering. Do you have a dream or a vision you wish to pursue but lack the drive or the courage to move it forward. Find your passion behind the vision

"Live today. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Just today. Inhabit your moments. Don't rent them out to tomorrow."
      -Jerry Spinelli
      (1941-); author

I stopped in my tracks today when I saw this enormous tulip! Not only was it huge, it was wide open, exposing all of its beauty to those who passed by. I wondered how many people on this glorious, sunny afternoon, had taken a precious moment to pause and look at this amazing flower?

There is so much beauty surrounding us. Sometimes it jumps out at me, as this flower did today. Other times I have to look for it, both in nature and in people. What I know to be true is that my moods and perceptions change daily, what might have been true in the past may no longer hold true today. I have no idea what may come to pass tomorrow. So I clear my plate and begin again every day. I take notice and look for the beauty in the moment knowing it exists around me, inside me and in
