Are you happy most of the time? Do you know what makes you happy?

I have given some thought to what makes some people happier then others. I think it's pretty simple and yet it's very different for each of us. The trick is to know who you are, figure out what brings you joy and keep doing more of those things.

Are you very hard on yourself? If you are overly critical, judgmental and harsh with yourself, it could be that deep down inside you just don't feel "good enough."

You are not alone, I too suffer from this disease. It's more like a plague that has been with me all my life. At this point it doesn't matter where it came from, all I know is that it's one of my less than friendly companions that rears her head more often then I would like to admit.

Share with me what you do to quiet those less than helpful voices of self-doubt and judgment. How do you let go of unpleasant feelings that can weight you down when all you want to do is soar?

Do you think the idea of "loving yourself" sounds selfish? What important life lesson have you experienced that helped you learn to value yourself? Share your story so we can all learn to love ourselves more.

As a teenager, I wrote in secret, finding it difficult to put my work out there in classes or workshops. If I could not write honestly, I would not write.

I was closeted at work, with family, friends and neighbors. But a closet is too dark a place for writing, though from time to time I used a flashlight, or hid my words under the mattress or in locked jewelry boxes. I wrote in code, knowing the danger of my truth. I read the graffiti on the walls: "Homos go to hell." I heard offensive comments on TV, and anger from guys on the corner. I heard the crude insults hurled at my classmate, Marilyn Feldman, when she voiced her secret. READ MORE:

Do you choose your friends based upon how they look, or by how they make you feel? Share with me about an unusual or unlikely friendship.

I used to pre-judge people based upon their appearance. I didn'trealize that I was depriving myself of knowing many interesting, fascinating and amazing friends due to my own limited, superficial beliefs.

When I met Rob, a homeless man who is wheel chair bound, that all changed. We appear to be unlikely friends, but we share stories, and genuine feelings of caring and kindness toward each other. I know Rob to be intelligent, sensitive and caring. I look forward to seeing him because he always says things that make me feel beautiful.

Today I have all kinds of friends in all shapes, sizes and income brackets. I no longer judge people by anything except the goodness of their heart and the generosity of their spirit.

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." by Marianne Williamson
