Led by Dato Ambiga Sreenevasan, BERSIH 2.0 has so far gathered over 50 thousand 'likes' on its official facebook page with strong calls for Malaysians to be brave enough to come and join in the planned street rally on 9th July 2011.

The street rally is meant to be peaceful and non-political, just like civil movements of 62 Non Governmental Organisations asking for greater democracy. However, the response to this rally turned out to be tremendous. Perkasa (a non-governmental Malay Supremacy), and 56 Non Governmental Organisations are asking BERSIH 2.0 to call off their rally and are launching a counter rally against them. UMNO (United Malays National Organisation) Youth is also calling for a counter rally, separate from Perkasa against BERSIH 2.0.

The opposition to BERSIH 2.0 claims that it is a political movement (as it contains the political opposition party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, and Democratic Action Party) out to topple the current government.

The £100,000 solar energy initiative could make the cathedral, the first in the country and possibly in the world to go solar. The team from the cathedral will apply for planning permission from Coventry City Council and will also require an approval from the Cathedral Fabric Commission of England.

Executive director Jane Woodward said: "We are looking at putting a 50 kilowatt solar array on the roof and we hope it will significantly reduce our electricity bills."

Mrs Woodward also said that the Grade-I listed building has fairly flat roof instead of steep pitched roofs behind shady parapets of other cathedrals in Coventry. She indicated that The Church of England and the Archbishop of Canterbury are already interested in the project for its environmental benefits.
