She cracked us up as Mary Katherine Gallagher and other memorable characters on Saturday Night Live, but now comedian Molly Shannon is a working mother trying to juggle it all. And, she recently told me her daily secret to staying energized - a multivitamin and a 20-minute run. The combination helps her power through eight Broadway performances a week in Promises, Promises and raise her children, Stella, 7, and Nolan, 5, with husband Fritz Chestnut. The funny lady took a few moments to share her candid thoughts on motherhood.
LilSugar: You know you're a mother when ____?
Molly Shannon: You get thrown up on and don't care at all!
LS: Why didn't anybody tell me _____ about motherhood?
MS: That nursing kills in the beginning! It felt like a little piranha until it settled down...when your milk comes in.
LS: What's the best trick your parent taught you?
MS: My dad was silly and fun. He'd say do you want to go to the park and then out to have chili, and you can cut school. He would make

Being 16 and Pregnant isn't an ideal situation, but when you're a girl put in the spotlight by MTV, there may be some benefits. From the latest coverage of Amber's weight loss and tattoo to Tyler and Catelynn's college funds, the young moms featured in the popular program Teen Mom (meant to deter high school students from becoming parents) have gained fame. By LilSugar | Parenting – Wed, Dec 8, 2010 8:55 PM ESTFor generations, the youngest members of a family were booted from the dinner table when there was a shortage of space at holiday gatherings. The kids would end up eating in a makeshift space - sitting in kitchen drawers, at a card table, out on the porch or on stairs - (even after they came of age) waiting for a family member to move, divorce, or die so the "child" could secure a sacred seat. But during those meals eaten everywhere from the living room floor to the basement, children bonded with the cousins and friends who ended up in the same situation. Over time, perhaps getting to the adult table didn't matter anymore.

Have you ever had one of those days where you actually believe there's a chance you could be eaten by a shark and struck by lightening because everything else has already gone wrong? That happened to me recently. After my car died and I was stranded without a charged cell phone waiting for a tow, I found a wet postal slip stuck to the garage floor saying that the holiday outfits I ordered for my kids needed to be picked up before closing. Since we were scheduled to have their picture taken the following day and time was ticking, I popped my baby in the car and flew over to get the goods. After circling a congested street several times and finally finding parking, I got my son out only to realize that he had a diaper explosion and liquid excrement had seeped up to his neck. The poop also now covered most of my coat.
My first instinct was to cry because it had been a ridiculously hellish week and in the hurry to leave I hadn't grabbed my diaper bag, but then my motherly instinct kickedBreast Milk Recipes From Guacamole to Chanterelle Sauce!

While more than half of polled LilSugar readers have tasted their own breast milk, only a small fraction have taken their exploration so far as to make momsicles (that's popsicles made with mom's milk). Inspired by the New York chef that made headlines for serving cheese made with his wife's milk, I went on a hunt to find recipes rich in breast milk. Whether you are an adventurous chef or you are starting to wean baby and want to supplement solids with the nutrients of breast milk, here are a few inspirational concoctions.
- Mashed avocado with breast milk: One mom mixed half an organic avocado with breast milk for baby's "first taste of something other than rice cereal."
- Breast milk cheese: You'll need mother's milk, cow's milk, yogurt, and rennet to get started.
- Breast milk soap: Make a milky wash with a mixture of water, vegetable oil, cocoa butter, and breast milk.
- Momsicles: This easy and cold treat is oft used to sooth teething tots.
