About the time getting squeaky-clean fell out of fashion, a curious thing happened: Women noticed their freshly washed faces still had some traces of makeup. Turns out all those gentle cleansers can't take everything off (especially if it's long-wear!). Here's to saving face -- and your pretty linens.Time Inc. Digital Studio

1. Start with a cleansing oil
When it comes to heavy lifting (full coverage foundation, SPF 45 sunscreen), regular cleansers often don't cut it, says Miami dermatologist Leslie Baumann. Massaged over dry skin, a cleansing oil dissolves hard-to-remove makeup in seconds, no tugging required. Oil-phobic? Use a wipe on your face, then saturate a cotton square (pros say they're less abrasive than balls) with an oil-based remover and press over eyes for 30 seconds before gently wiping away.

2. Rinse away oil with a deep cleanser
