Q: How can I wear very bright/very dark makeup in the fall once my tan fades and I become really pale? -Tara

Read more: The Lucky Fall Shoe Guide

      A: Dear Tara,

The super-dark option is the easier of the two: Think Snow White, think Cruella de Ville, think Dita Von Teese, think Twilight/True Blood et al. Bright, on the other hand, is trickier with pale; it's trickier in general, but pale especially.

Bobbi Brown's great blush trick, useful in many situations, is brilliant here: Use two blushes, a bright, plus a neutral brownish pink-something you imagine might be called "Cedar Rose." Put the neutral on first, then pop a bit of the bright on top. It's one of the best makeup tricks in existence, and it warms up your whole face, making it more bright-friendly all around.

    • Mom-Friendly Beauty Routine

      Nicola Ruiz, Lucky magazine

Last week I wrote about my chat with Julie Flakstad, founder of Blow, a chic hair salon in Manhattan, where I discovered some fabulous hair styling tips for women on the go. Not surprisingly, as a result of working in a hair salon around legions of women getting blow outs, this gal hears a lot of beauty tips and has become particularly in tune with what moms like us want and need when it comes to our beauty routines. And the good news is she was willing to share.

"As a mom to two small children, I'm all about ease with big impact," says Flakstad. "So I don't go a day without my power lashes by Dior."

She starts with Diorshow Maximizer, a primer that you use before applying mascara as well as a conditioning treatment for nighttime use. Following that she uses Diorshow Iconic mascara in black.

Next, Flakstad goes classic with a spritz of her longtime favorite scent Coco Channel Eau de Parfum, and swears by her go-to polish color for toes, Macks by Essie.

    • 5 Fall Trends You Have to Try

      Natalie Matthews,

You don't actually need to try these trends, but you'll probably want to, since they won't have you looking like a wannabe street style star tottering around in 8-inch, llama-fur-covered stilettos. From pretty puffers to fancy-looking sneakers, they're cool, easy, and even (gasp!) comfortable. (As all of the best trends should be, no matter the season.)

    • How-to: Darker Hair for Fall

Courtesy of L'OrealCourtesy of L'OrealJean Godfrey-June, Lucky magazine

Lately I've been seeing pink, purple and blue hair everywhere-from the heads of my favorites celebs to models on the runways of New York Fashion Week. But I'm saving the bright hues for the warmer months because this fall, it's all about going dark. As someone who has never dyed her hair, the thought of going darker incites a lot of questions. So I turned to Kyle White, lead colorist at Oscar Blandi Salon, for some expert tips and advice.

      Lucky:
What is the most popular hair color your clients have been requesting this fall?

Kyle White: I usually get requests for darker and warmer hair color after the summer, but this fall I'm getting girls that are going from light to dark in record numbers. During winter months the sun is further away from the earth and casts a less yellow light, and we also spend less time outside so skin loses that sun-kissed glow. The contrast of darker hair will bring color back

Ilustration by Lauren FriedmanIlustration by Lauren FriedmanJean Godfrey-June, Lucky magazine

Q: It rains constantly where I go to school. Can you recommend functional boots and raincoats that don't look plastic-ish or too cutesy? -Caroline

Read more: The Lucky Fall Shoe Guide

      A: Dear Caroline,

Accessories director Julia Kalachnikoff could not agree with you more. "Please!" she said. "Please no more zany polka dots! I don't care if you look like a ladybug or a frog-why is that desirable?" Julia loves the short rubber boots from Loeffler Randall. "What I like is that they're short and they're cute enough to wear all day, but also if you don't wear them all day, they take up less space in a bag than a traditional wellie."

That said, if you like a wellie, the fashion department implores you not to go crazy with color. "Solid green, navy or black," said Julia, solemnly. Tretorn makes an adorable short, utilitarian rain boot that I think is very Life Aquatic and fabulous. Especially the slate-bluish

      : Dear Karyn,

The crazy-carnival show of nails, gels, nail art and beyond shows no sign of fading in popularity, so the question is really more, what nail look isn't in style right now? You can't go wrong this fall is the message. What's your favorite color? That's all you need to think about. That and maybe, who am I and where do I work? Left are my three (relatively staid but wildly glamorous) favorites.

    • How to Wear Monochromatic

      Alison Syrett, Lucky magazine

It's shameful it took me so long to try the monochromatic trend. By worrying that an all-purple ensemble would remind people of Barney or that only Elizabeth Olsen could pull off a red top AND bottom, I was really missing out. I could have saved myself so many stressful mornings. And gotten so many more compliments.

Now that I've finally wised up and embraced the whole one-color thing, I'm making sure you learn from my mistakes. There's no reason to be scared by a head-to-toe hue-just follow my three easy tips in the slideshow below.

    • How to Wear Fall's Chunky Knits

      Jean Godfrey June, Lucky magazine
Q: How can I wear fall's chunky knits without looking chunky? -Rebecca

      A: Dear Rebecca,

Read more: The Lucky Fall Shoe Guide

"It's chunky!" said fashion director Anne Keane. "Don't try to wear it in a 'slim' way." All the fashion girls lived for the Chloé show (left), chockablock with knits that are not just chunky but boxy. "You know, I could give some advice about a belt, blah blah," Anne said. "But, like at Chloé, it's all about proportion and how it hangs-it's exaggerated. It's meant to be boxy."

Anne likes breezy or tailored with chunky. "You want contrast in terms of a silhouette, like a slim pant or a pencil skirt or a silky, flowy skirt." The only contrast Anne was not having was a short skirt. "Oh, I don't think so," she said, looking at me as if I should definitely know better.

    • 5 Minutes with Giuliana Rancic

      Bobby Schuessler, Lucky magazine

When we met with entertainment goddess Giuliana Rancic to discuss her first clothing line, G by Giuliana Rancic, she was glowing-and with good reason. After years of infertility and a public struggle with breast cancer last year, the E! News host is not only healthy, but recently welcomed her first son, Edward Duke, into the world.

"Being a mom is the best kind of job in the world," she gushed before we touched on her new collection-which is actually pretty gush-worthy itself.
