The photos don't have to be as glossy as this one of our Senior Fashion Editor, Elle Strauss. (We've been iPhone-snapping ones from our office too, like this one.) But before you put on your lipstick and do your best street style blogger pose, remember to hashtag your photo so we can find it-and you can avoid that slightly deflating realization that you look awesome but have no audience.

Drinking margaritas bigger than your handbag while inhaling slightly stale chips at bad Tex Mex restaurants is an especially likely fate for Cinco de Mayo this year.
The holiday-which is not Mexican Independence Day, just in case you were wondering-falls on a Saturday in 2012, so be prepared with our piñata of things to wear. (They might not be authentically, traditionally Mexican, but they seem it, and people will be drinking tequila or at least cerveza anyway.)

Designer Alice Temperley has teamed up with British retailer John Lewis to create Sommerset, an affordable line inspired by her high-end creations. The first part of the 60-piece collection will debut in stores and online on September 4, the second-a range of party wear-in early October.
Even if you are unfamiliar with Temperley's polished take on boho style, you definitely know two of her biggest fans: the Middleton sisters. Since the label is one of Kate and Pippa's go-tos for red carpet events, we think this budget-friendly option will fit perfectly into their Zara- and Topshop-packed closets. For more details about the upcoming launch, check out Johnlewis.com.

What are the most popular fashion brands in your city? We can infer that Seattle drips in North Face rain gear while Chicagoans treasure winter-blocking UGG boots. But at Lucky, we've always had this hunch that geography's effect on fashion goes beyond weather, and that different regions have their own style climates, too. A fashion personality that goes beyond necessity.
To prove it, we asked our friends at Shop It To Me-an online personal shopping assistant that tracks discounts on your favorite brands-to crunch some numbers. They analyzed the brand preferences of their users in 23 major U.S. cities and ranked the most popular brands 1-50 in each of them. (While the site works with over 800 brands, most customers are loyal to the 60 brands on the list above, which is why they'll be mentioned most frequently.)
Click through the slideshow below to explore some of their findings, and tell us, do you stack up with your city's preferences? Or is

Fact: sunglasses tend to get lost. Whether you leave them in taxis, trains, airplanes or elsewhere, they have a notorious tendency to find their way off your face and into some nook or cranny where you'd never think to search-costing you tens (or hundreds) of dollars with each subsequent replacement pair. Also a fact: during outdoor athletics (biking, hiking, jogging etc.), it's even easier to lose track of your favorite shades. That's why Croakies, the sunglass cords beloved by suburban dads and sports instructors worldwide, were invented. A more athletic cousin of the beaded eyeglass chains frequently worn by librarians and the like, they're both highly functional and inexpensive. Too bad they're incredibly dorky-looking.

I have a Devil Wears Prada moment when I see a girl in a pair of denim shorts and a flannel shirt at a Western-themed party ("Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.") Obviously it's better than the negative eighty-eight points I award anyone who shows up at at costume party in regular, normal clothes-but still.
To me, a theme party's an opportunity to be creative, which means mentally shelving the first outfit idea that pops into my head. Odds are it's the same thing 90 percent of the girls invited will wear, too, making that dress code more like a uniform.
Instead, I like these outfits in the slideshow below. They're each a bit more creative than the typical costumes for each decade, TV show and holiday theme party-without any crafting, DIY or costume store shopping involved. (Also, they're things you'll actually wear again in real life. You know, to parties whose dress code is simply "casual" or "cocktail.")

Between Kate Middleton's ladylike fascinators and Lady Gaga's showstopping headpieces, hats are having a major moment in fashion. To meet this sudden demand for over-the-top head wear, Andrew Curren-the co-founder of My-wardrobe.com-has launched a new hat-centric e-tailer, Lovehats.com.
Since the website is based in London, home to some of the world's best milliners, its selection far surpasses a Lids store at the local mall; we spotted everything from Philip Treacy creations (favored by the British royals) to jaunty Selima fedoras. The entire stock is also available to "try on" virtually by uploading a headshot. When satisfied with your digital accessorizing, you can share the final image with your friends before purchasing.
To help you try this trend, we found hats for five summer occasions. Click through the slideshow to shop them now and then visit Lovehats.com for even more stylish toppers.

Although we associate Alicia Silverstone with her 1995 role in Clueless as a do-gooder valley girl whose wardrobe we still covet 12 years later, the actress has actually changed a lot since then. She now dedicates most of her her time to promoting a vegan and green lifestyle, but we think her alter ego would approve of this endeavor.
