Gift sets are the beauty-world equivalent of a sale-you get a lot of great stuff for often much less than it normally costs. Hence, we tend to splurge on ourselves at the same time that we're indulging our mothers... More from Lucky: Hairstyles We Love Now Look We Love: Bigger and Better
Like most impassioned denim wearers, my life is one long search for the perfect pair. They can't be too stretchy, they can't look distressed, they can't get too stretched out after wearing them--and I have a strict no-embellishment-of-any-kind policy. If you hold yourself to similar denim standards, you might want to give these a try:
J Brand "The Oslo" in indigo: I had to buy two pairs of these because I wear them so often. The 29-inch inseam is the perfect length because it's short enough to show your entire shoe, but they aren't cropped. These look great with flats and ankle boots and there is never any awkward bunching at the bottom. I love the ten-inch leg opening (most pairs have a fourteen-inch opening) because it's so much more slimming.
Acne Hex DC: Assistant beauty editor (and my friend) Simone Kitchens looks so amazing in them that I HAD to copy her. We love these because they don't get too stretched out and the dark wash is super easy to dress up and down.

The Show: Vera Wang
The Venue: The Promenade at Bryant Park, with the models entering the runway through a white Matisse-like cut-out backdrop.
The Models: '60s Italian movie-star teased, loose hair and black eyeliner.
The Look: Vera Wang makes clothes that you could just as easily display as wear. Each piece feels like a little work of art that you want to show everyone you know so they can marvel at its remarkable detail.
For fall, her mostly dark mini masterpieces included organza corsage and rosette appliques on jackets, skirts and dresses; draped tops that looked as if they had been molded into their curvey folds; silk scallops that had a feather-like quality; futuristic black coated fringe and, of course, her requisite crystals and sequins which were especially beautiful on cocktail dresses.

The Show: Diane von Furstenberg
The Venue: The Tent, Bryant Park
The Celebs: Lee Radziwill, Hilary Rhoda, Peaches Geldof, Molly Sims
The Look: On a runway lined with high-powered pals, Diane von Furstenberg and Nathan Jenden ended their final collaboration (Jenden is leaving DVF to focus on his own namesake label which he started in 2005) with a juxtaposition of masuline and feminine. The blazer was the cornerstone of the collection, offered in many different styles--oversized, double breasted, metallic--and paired with everything from cropped slim pants to pretty organza dresses. Diane's signature prints were still there, but this time featured abstractly on fabrics such as panne velvet and chiffon. Metallic details, sequins, and chain trim finished off the looks.

The Show: Yigal Azrouel
The Scene: The Promenade, Bryant Park
The Celebs: Malin Akerman in an emerald green dress, television personality Lauren Ezersky, and now-famous blogger BryanBoy who was front-row-ready in a big fur coat and dark sunglasses.
The Music: Jorge Elbrecht of the Violens played some indie favorites from the early '90s from bands such as Unrest and My Bloody Valentine.

The Look: Yigal Azrouel went heavy on tailoring for his fall/winter collection. There was a definite architectural influence seen in the bright red cocoon coat (above), pristinely pleated tapered trousers, and gowns with open lattice-like backs and exposed zippers.

Swarovski crystals added unexpected sparkle to distressed leather and raw knits.

All the looks were accessorized with oversize, '80s-style geometric jewelry by fashion favorite Pamela Love.

I know a lot of people dislike Valentine's Day because they find it too sugary sweet, too commercial, and altogether nauseating. But I'm not one of those people. Let me preface this by saying that I'm not a girly-girl at all. I don't own any pink clothing or anything ruffled. However, Valentine's Day is the one day of the year that I can be as girly as it gets and feel like I have an excuse.
I can eat candy conversation hearts until it feels like my teeth are going to fall out, make silly valentines out of construction paper for my loved ones, and have a fancy overpriced dinner with my husband while whispering appallingly cheesy sweet nothings in his ear. In other words, I choose to break

You'd think that since I design clothing for a living I should be fashionable all the time. The truth is that I can be lazy with my outfits, and often end up wearing t-shirts because I want to be comfortable while I'm hunched over my sewing machine all day. That's why I've become obsessed with jewelry--a cool necklace can make even a simple tee look super chic.
Right now I'm really into yarn and string with variegated colors, which I've used to create a fun D.I.Y. necklace. Each piece I made only cost me a couple of dollars. How great is that?

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been busy launching a web site for The Row, but that's not the only big project they're working on right now. The twins have launched a design contest for teenagers and young women ages 13 to 21 for their Olsenboye line with JCPenney.

The Olsens will choose 15 finalists, then allow the public to designate the winner, whose design will make it into the Olsenboye line. The winner will also have the chance to meet the Mary-Kate and Ashley in New York. (A trip to NYC--a teenager's dream, isn't it?)
Here's a look at some of the spring collection, which will range from $20 to $50 and will be available online and in stores tomorrow.
