    • Spot-less Skin. How to Eliminate Facial Brown Spots…

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite

Brown spots may look great on a pair of classic leopard-print Louboutins, but on a gal's face or hands, eh-eh. Recently, a girlfriend of mine was lamenting about the brown spots she's developed and her utter confusion around what caused them and how to get rid of them. Thus, my inspiration for this article. I'll do my best to provide solid Cliff Notes, as there's a lot of information to digest on this topic.

So, What Exactly Are These Spots?

According to Total Dermatology the causes of brown spots are vast, ranging from medication (e.g. birth control) to sun damage. What's more, there are several different types of brown spots including (but not all-encompassing):

Melasma or Chloasma: Skin coloration that appears as blotchy, brown spots, usually covering the cheeks and forehead area. This type of hyper-pigmentation can be hereditary, or triggered by hormonal changes such as pregnancy or menopause. Taking birth control

    • Fall Head Over Nails For Autumn-Inspired Nail Polish!

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite
One of my favorite things about the fall season is the surplus of warm, earthy colors. Autumn makes me think of golds, ambers, auburns, mossy greens, and rich browns. When it comes to hair, makeup, and nail color, we say goodbye to the bright summer colors and welcome warmer, deeper hues.

Which is why I've fallen head over nails for OPI's Touring America Collection. This 12-color line incorporates rich autumn shades and variations of the still-ultra-popular grey and taupe shades. Here are a few colors that will get your nails fall-ready:

      - Get In The Expresso Lane (a dark, earthy brown)

      - Uh Oh Roll Down the Window (a deep, mossy green)

      - A Taupe The Space Needle (a unique taupe with olive undertones)

      - Are We There Yet (a perfect melon shade for fall)

And besides color inspiration for the fall season, you'll be getting some culture, to boot. This line was inspired by America's most loved cities including

    • Elizabeth Taylor Eyebrow Envy

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite

Eyebrows are to our face what a picture frame is to a photo….those tufts of hair above your peepers are you face's spotlight, making your features pop. Eyebrows briefly had a fling with thin and skinny (Pamela Lee Anderson in the 90s) but thicker brows aren't anything new (think Elizabeth Taylor in the 60s, Sally Field in the 70s, Brook Shields in the 80s). Prominent brows have especially been the trend for the past few years and are slated to be even thicker and more dramatic this season. I've dreamt of Brooke Shields-esque eyebrows for years, but atlas, wasn't born with prominent brows.

So, what can one do to bulk up her brows? There are a plethora of options including growth serums, eyebrow pencils, powders, and stencils (to ensure you get that perfect shape). If your brows are experiencing brow-rexia (aka over-plucked eyebrows) I definitely recommend using a growth serum for a few months. And while they're filling in, you

    • The Updated Ponytail

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite

I have fallen head-over-tresses for just about any version of a ponytail or loose braid! Gone are the days of the boring, traditional pony. She's been updated and can be sported at the office or out with the girls. There are a number of variations…messy, chic, high, low, off to the side….any version looks simply stunning.

A few of my current favorites (and how-tos)…for your viewing pleasure…..

The chic, high pony: Let hair air dry or use a diffuser to create natural wave. Once dried, work in a pomade to create texture. Use a lifting spray at the roots then gather your hair and in an elastic band to secure the ponytail. If you desire more waves, use a large barrel curling iron.

The headband braid pony: To create this texture, use the same products/steps in the above (chic, high) pony. Next, start a loose braid at the top/front part of your hair. Once braided, secure all of your hair into a low, side ponytail. Pull out a Read More »from The Updated Ponytail
    • This Week’s Gotta Have: Teaser Brush (Bring On The Volume)!

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite

Do you have volume envy? Well, then it's time to join the big hair club, ladies. This Week's Gotta Have is a teaser brush. It's the perfect little tool to get your tresses sky-high, in a chic way. And did I mention it's one of this fall's hottest hair trends? While big hair sounds tough to pull off, don't fret, girls…teased locks can easily be yours with these straight-forward steps:

      1) Wash hair and apply a mousse that promotes fullness and body. Blow-dry hair upside down to provide lots of volume at the roots. If you want curl with your volume, use hot rollers or a large-barrel curling iron. If you're going for straight, use a round brush to smooth out blow-dried hair and/or use a flat iron.

      2) Get a single section of hair (roughly 1 inch wide), clipping the rest out of the way. Start with the hair on top of your head and work down to the bottom. Spray that section with a hairspray that promises colossal body (I like Big

    • Makeup’s Journey From Natural Beauty To Dazzling Dame…

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite

This photo inspired me to take a journey through makeup history and pay homage to makeup's evolution throughout the 40s and 50s. Starting with the 40s (during WWll), these years were known by many women as the "make do and mend" years due to shortages. Makeup was considered frivolous and made to go a long way (I can just envision women scrapping the very bottom of the lipstick tube to use up every last bit). Not surprisingly, many things served double duty purpose (e.g. lipstick being used for both lip color and rouge). As far as the look, this decade was all about the natural beauty. But, while women had to make do with what they had, they were still able to pull off simple, elegant glamour (think Veronica Lake).

Now, enter the 50s when makeup takes a radical, dramatic turn. Times were prosperous and cosmetics were all the rage as women wanted to emulate their favorite Hollywood starlets (Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe,

    • DIY Vanilla-Cinnamon Brown Sugar Body Scrub

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite

We girls appreciate the power of pampering and like to do it often. However, the spa prices can break the bank if you're an over-indulger like myself (facials and pedicures are my Kyptonite…I'm powerless to pass one up). So, a girlfriend of mine recently suggested we have our own DIY spa day. My inner tree-hugger immediately embraced the idea! Deep down I love the idea of DIY projects, but always fear my efforts (and patience level) will fall short (Martha Stewart, I am not).

I began brainstorming on body scrub recipe ideas and was taken back to my college days when we girls would sit around with an egg white/lemon juice mixture on our faces chattering about beauty this and that. Surely I can come up with something a little more sophisticated.

So, I summoned my DIY prowess and here's what I created. I must admit, I'm pretty impressed with it. I wanted to come up with a texture that's very similar to Fresh Brown Sugar Body

    • This Week’s Gotta Do: Smoky, Metallic Eye

{by} Sasha | Crows' Feet, Cupcakes, and Cellulite

This Week's Gotta Do is all about the smoke and metal, ladies. One of this fall's hottest make up trends is the smoky, metallic eye. And the good news? It's super easy (and quick) to get the look. Bronze, chrome, gold…pick your metal and bring on the smolder…

      How-to:
Rim the eyes with a metallic liner of choice (I'm loving CoverGirl LiquilineBlast Eyeliner Pencil in Blackfire). Next apply a metallic shadow of choice (I recommend Maybelline's Eyestudio Color Plush palette in Copper Chic), I used the darkest copper color and then dust over it with the gold color to really make the metallic color pop).

There. Now, you're sporting one of this fall's key make up trends. Go forth with your smoky, metallic eyes, ladies, and own it like you're on the runway…
